Apollon bei Pano - Hamburg

I had just arrived in hamburg and was very hungry,I stumbled across this place and as it was Friday it was very busy. I was seated straight away and while looking at the menu a side salad some bread and a bottle of ouzo were placed in front of me, I ordered a beer a starter and a steak main course it was excellent, but the best part was my server an older greek man who had such a big personality and was great fun, without asking I assume him to be the owner. finally when I went to pay, my bill was probably about 20 euros less than I thought it would be! great value.

I have been to many Greek restaurants in Germany and abroad and even if quality varied, all of them were quite ok. This led me to the belief that you can hardly be completely disappointed when dining out Greek style. How wrong I was! This restaurant has been recommended by some friends who are regular visitors. So off we went. It took a while to get the food. And unfortunately it wasn't worth waiting: The Tarama was watery, the Tsatsiki made of quark instread of yoghurt with a very strange texture, the salad composed 50% of raw onions, the meat tasted old and the worst part were the Calamaris which were deep-fried in such an extreme way I've never seen before. I tried to remove the thick batter and just eat the calamari inside but this was a disapointment as well as it hadn't been seasoned at all. The dish came along with a pile of dry brownish-looking rice. Yuk! I really started feeling sick when trying to eat more of it. The owner came and apologized that normally it would be him doing this dish and that it is one of his most popular ones ! and that we wouldn't have to pay for the dish but instead should return another time where he himself would prepare a double one for us. This was a friendly move, but just thinking about having to eat such extremely bad calamari again in double size with everybody looking at me and expectating a praise made my stomach hurt. We waited very long for the bill, even though we asked several times for it. I'll surely avoid this place in the future. Bad food and an owner with a slimy attitude. Never again!

Also to go pano remains generous and the food is delicious.. Support in Corona times is worth it.

I go to pano every month. they serve a delicious Greek salate and alioli before every dish very good! eating is always fresh and worth its price! the owner is very nice and he is always there to receive his guests with a few Ouso shots: p
