Bidra med feedbackI came with a group of around 15 people and the staff was very accommodating and helpful with choosing dishes and trying to fit everything we ordered on the table. We ordered a lot of dishes but the stand out ones were the pork and thousand year egg congee, wonton soup, fried fish, and the warm tofu pudding dessert. I did notice that some of their dishes tasted exactly the same and had the same spices (or lack of spices). Besides the dishes I mentioned above, the rest were pretty bland and seems to only be seasoned with salt or fried. Portion sizes are large but the price is also steep.
A pretty decent spot for authentic Cantonese food! You actually feel like you are in Hong Kong when you step inside the restaurant. The staff here isn't very friendly, but they are quick and efficient. The major downside is that the food is very overpriced. You can get similar options at Mein at a far cheaper price. On this particular experience, I came with a group of friends, and we decided to indulge ourselves. My personal favorites would have to be the spicy pork ribs and the salt and pepper squid. I normally order these two items at every Chinese restaurant. They came out very crispy with just the right amount of saltiness. They even have unique items like congee, which is perfect in the cold weather. Overall, my experience here was just alright! The food was good, but nothing special. The same could be said for the service. If I am craving more authentic Cantonese items, I will probably be back in the future!
Like many reviews indicate, HKFS is priced higher than other Asian restaurants in Chinatown, not sure why. They're known for their congee and wonton soups and have several types to choose from, as opposed to other Chinese restaurants that have 1 or maybe 2. This is not street food, nor a fast food restaurant. Inside it's classical furniture with a dining room that can accommodate large parties. There are two menus to choose from, one already sitting on a table with many small dishes for less than $10, and a larger traditional menu they hand you when you're seated. The latter contains mostly dinner and higher-priced items. The wonton soups and congees are listed on the menu already on the table. On a recent visit, I tried both their congee and wonton soups since I hadn't tried them on my prior visit years ago. The congee is just congee in my opinion. If you're not a big rice eater, then it's sort of bland. It's just comfort food for some. The wonton soup comes out in a good sized bowl and contains about 6-7 wontons filled with whole shrimp and pork. Still pretty bland and does not tastes like you would get at a typical Americanized Chinese restaurant.
I always like coming here to get their wonton soup. Their wontons are huge and filled with shrimps and mushrooms. The soup broth is also sweet and just the right flavor. You can also get the wonton soup with noodles and with the roasted duck in it. The roasted duck goes well with the wonton soup and noodles but you will get less wontons. I have gotten the to-go version before but the roasted ducks they gave me were mostly bone pieces. Their wonton soup is one of their best dishes at a good price. Perfect for when you're sick or when it's cold although it's rarely cold in H-Town. Besides that, I have tried their lobster which was alright. It's located in the corner by 85C Bakery. Limited parking in the front and additional parking can be found in the plaza. This place opens past midnight. Also, $20 min on card transactions.
I can't recount how many times I've been at this place, and I aso can't believe I have never put in a Yelp review! This restaurant has always been my late night spot. But as I grow older, as we all are, I have visited it at an earlier and earlier time than before. It is still one of the most consistent and favorite place of Chinatown for me. First off, the dumpling soup her is the best! They will not skimp on the stuffing for your dumplings. The pork and shrimp and mushroom dumplings are so hearthy, that even my parents always ask for it when they come by. They roast pork and roast duck are good as well. The roast pork comes with a very crispy skin layer, and the fat layer is always at the right thickness. Some other dishes that I have also enjoyed included the fried intestine--so so good, together with the picked vegetable and the sauce, it is heaven! The steamed dungeness crab and rice in lotus leaf is also a great choice when you have a large group as well. Their stir fry flat noodle is also good, but not the best I have had. The congee served here is good as well, we usually get the preserved egg and pork one. Overall, you wouldn't be sad when you go to HK Food Street!
