San May Vegetarian - Hue

Loved this place....what an experience to eat amazing food in an old tradition house with a beautiful garden. The best vegetarian/vegan food I've had in Vietnam as yet. Highly recommend it.

Nice atmosphere, off from the busy road. Menu is in vietnamese only, but has also pictures. The staff was nice and friendly and assisted with translating. The food alright I suppose but not too memorable. Updated from previous review on 2017-09-10

Nice located restaurant. We stayed in the graden twice. The food is very delicous. Unfortunately they use milk or yoghurt for some drinks. I did Not appreciate the plastic straws and the wet and try tissues, served in tinfoil. Especially the straws could be exchanged with bamboo or glas straws. It would bei better for the environment!

I spend about half the year in Hue and I think this is the best restaurant. Good food, pleasant garden setting, friendly, attentive staff. Standard dishes, plenty of choices, a cut well above the typical Vietnamese veggie restaurant. Try one of the springs rolls. Or the local pomelo (thanh tra) salad when it's in season (Late summer, fall). The owner speaks English. The staff not too much, but not a problem. The menu has pictures and the staff is easy and accommodating. Good people down there. Food I believe is all vegan. Some of the drinks have dairy. So make mention if vegan.

First of all, the man who took our order was very pushy and was suggesting the most expensive dishes of the menu. The food was good but nothing special. We were very surprised when we had to pay, we were overcharged for the appetizers we took 2 green rice balls instead of 6, as he advised, and were charged for 6 pieces); before ordering we asked if the rice was included in our meal, he said yes, and on the check it was charged 15.000. Only found out once gone back home. Also in the scooter parking of the restaurant there is a baby dog attached with a chain, he was very friendly to us but was frightened by his owner, and even more so by a stick the man would threatening him with. Obviously the dog is mistreated. Heartbreaking : ' Reaaaal bad experience for us, don 't recommend it.
