Gates -b-q - Independence

A Kansas City staple. Never disappoints on flavor. Order the fries extra crispy though, that's the secret.

My sister in law from Arizona was in town last week and on the last day she was here, we realized that we hadn 't had any KC BBQ. After seeing the touristy stuff in Independence, I took her to Gates. Normally I gravitate to the ribs at Gates because as I 've said in reviews of other locations Gates offers the best ribs in KC. Period. Today we were here in the early afternoon so we were able to order the daily lunch special; The Nooner : Burnt Ends on bun with a choice of a sliced meat and French fries for $9. A bargain we couldn 't resist. I chose brisket as my second meat and my all beef large sandwich with pickles was fantastic. My wife and sister ordered a Turkey Nooner and enjoyed as well. I have zero complaints with Gates BBQ and really can 't comprehend why Gates gets picked on with low ratings. Over the decades I 've probably had over 50 visits to all the Gates locations combined and never left disappointed. I 'm never ashamed to put Gates in my top tier when discussing KC BBQ. As a founding member of KC 's rich history of BBQ dominance, Gates continues to strut with pride for the past 8 decades.

Love this place!!! Been eating Gates bbq since I was a kid!!! They are always consistent with quality of food and portions

My daughter and I went there about 7 today, when o say God awful yesssss The help was rude as hell , have us burnt ribs we complained and the guy in the back Evil as hell, don’t think he wanted to be there at all ,,,,,onion rings burnt, fries cold and hard,,,,, this was the second time they did us like this we spent 100.00 for garbage I will never go back again People should care about other people Money is hard to come by these and you spend 100 and still hungry And teach your help saying bad language In front of customers is very rude Check ya folks in Independence Not worth of **** YALL LOST ME PERIOD

I continue to support this black business because I grew up with this business. Today I go into the independence location finally only two folks in line. Set up coming in the door never works the way it's posted. I order the Sunday special plus add two bones for $10.50. Person taking the order turns her back on you then you have to ask did you get my order. I understand sista it's been a long day but you have to grin and keep going. I pay cashier hands me my bag saying have a good day. I'm almost to door and person taking order yells out excuse me you don't have your two bones. So I turn around and stand and stand and stand. My two bones are sitting next to her while she fixing someone else's order so I stand and stand. Then I ask the cashier is that my order and cashier turns and says yes. Lady taking order said I got it wait a minute to cashier I stand and stand then lady taking order turns with orders stacked on top of each other of course my order on the bottom. What happen to Gates since Mr. Gates stepped down come on we got to get this together. Folks are rating Q39 as best place in KC for BBQ.
