Hilltop Tavern - Iowa City

A nice place to hang out. They have pool and a couple arcade games in the back room if you're bored. The food is pretty good for a dive bar, especially the rotating lunch special. It gets very busy at lunch, but I've never had the service suffer. Minus one star for the sketchy bathroom situation.

Friend and I visited this location for dinner on a Friday evening. While my friend had been here numerous times before, this visit was my first time. Location was fairly busy at the time of our arrival. Parking behind the build was limited and nearly full when we got there. Interior was pretty busy as well, but there was an open table available. Despite being busy, service was friendly and polite. We ordered a couple pre-dinner cocktails to drink while we waiting for our meals. Drinks were reasonably priced (especially for alcoholic beverages) and very well mixed. Food arrived in a timely fashion and was also solidly good. I ordered their philley cheesesteak sandwich with a side of french fries. Sandwhich had good flavor and the fries were warm and crisp. Good experience overall. I can see why my friend recommended it so strongly. Would definitely be willing to visit again the next time I'm in the Iowa City area.

Awesome spot with an absolutely stunning view just outside. A perfect and beautiful 8mile bike ride from Solon too. Cash only so remember that, but they do have an ATM if needed.
