Breakwater - Ironwood

I visited this restaurant with a family member while on vacation last Tuesday. The welcome we received was quite extravagant and a bit overwhelming. While we were waiting for our food, we could hear the staff talking loudly amongst themselves. When our food finally arrived, the hollandaise sauce was unblended and cold, and the hash browns had no crispness or color at all. Our drinks also went unrefilled. When I mentioned the issue with the hash browns while checking out, I received no response. My guest ended up fixing the problem by adding a lot of ketchup. After spending a long day outside doing tourist activities, we were both very hungry and felt let down by our choice of restaurant.

I have been dining at the Breakwater several times a week for over three years now. Throughout this time, I've experienced both excellent and poor service, as well as meals that range from outstanding to disappointing. Most of the servers are friendly and attentive, but recently I’ve had an issue with one particular woman who seems to find serving me to be an inconvenience. When she’s my server, I often find myself waiting a long time before I have to get up and ask for more coffee or for a small dessert that I usually order. For the first time a few nights ago, I left without a tip because she completely ignored me, even though the restaurant wasn't busy and there were plenty of servers available—there’s really no excuse for that. The following night, she went out of her way to be accommodating, and I left a larger tip, hoping to send her a message. Tonight, however, it was the same situation—she spent too much time chatting with her coworkers while neglecting the few occupied booths around. Thankfully, the other servers are doing well; in particular, there's one young server who chats pleasantly, checks in on me, and creates a cheerful atmosphere. As for the food, its quality can vary depending on the cook. Sometimes it’s fantastic, while other times it falls short—like when bacon is served crisp, but instead comes out burned and resembling a pile of ashes.

Breakwater is a solid restaurant in the area. The only drawback is that the quality of the food can be unpredictable, as some cooks excel while others may not perform as well.

A must-try! This has always been a favorite stop whenever I'm in Ironwood. The service is excellent, and the food is even better!
