Trattoria Monferrato - IVREA

Tasteless food and rude staff. Avoid at all costs. As a local, I was embarrassed to bring foreign guests to this abode of bad manners and horrendous food. Every dish was borderline uneatable. The vulgar and immature cook who thought it best to blame guests instead of apologising or taking feedback encouraged me to write a review before kicking us out. With pleasure: the antipasti were insipid, the mayo on the Vitello Tonnato was clearly old. The agnolotti with chestnuts were filled with bread dough and not meat as they are supposed to. The sauce consisted of grounded nuts (no butter, oil or other flavours) everything disjoined and as dry as a pile of sawdust. Same for the Plin with “seasonal herbs” simply uneatable. The crown for worst dish went to the “pork with coffee beans and apricot” which by this point you’ve understood is a laughable attempt at creativity. If your palate could make it beyond the chewy texture of third grade overpriced meat, it surely would have sunk to new depths once you tried the apricot sauce presented as an lumps of bird stains across the vast plate of sorry veggies. This dish alone warrants an episode of Gordon Ramsey swearing. To conclude; the world would be better without Trattoria Monferrato and you as a client, should not incentivise these deluded owners. They are in the wrong line of work which is sad. Because there is so much work to be done in the fertile plowing fields of Piemonte.

Visiting restaurants alone is often a challenge, and a way to see what the restaurant is ACTUALLY driven by. Monferrato gave me a nice table (it was a quiet day), and the ravioli were perfect tasty with a lovely condimento al brasato. Sadly, a very limited choice of wine by the glass; a couple of corks and a wine saver would provide easy options. True to many other reviews, the place is charming but could use a refresh; those light blues could be replaced by warmer shades, some low lights would give flexibility…. And eliminating the drugstore cooling counter would be a plus.

Recommended by the locals. Interesting atmosphere associated with the 'Orange festival '. Staff attentive. Food was tasty and enjoyable big quantities for us.

If you are visiting ivrea, and are looking for a place to eat, this is a great choice. The pasta was superb and the prices were pretty cheap compared to the rest of italy, 9/10 would come again
