Bidra med feedbackI sat here for breakfast because I know she serves breakfast or lunch all day. The taco/enchilada combo was great. Taco was crispy and no shop bought Shell. The green salsa is always on point (picture) I wanted the chilaquiles but decided on the combo. It also washes with her morning happy hour. $4 screwdriver and **** Mary and $6 mimosas. Not too ashamed. The service was quick and friendly. I was really surprised to see the amount of customers they had so early in the morning.
The food is good and the service is excellent, but there are a few drawbacks. My wife ordered a top-shelf Cadillac Margarita made with 1800 Tequila, and she rated it a 7 out of 10. If you're familiar with authentic Mexican cuisine, you might feel a bit let down. While everything tasted fine, it lacked the bold flavors and heat you would expect; it seemed a bit too polished and didn't incorporate enough spices or herbs. Having traveled frequently to Mexico and living in Southern California, where genuine Mexican food is abundant, we found this place lacking in the rich flavors that come from the right spice combinations. Also, don't expect the staff to be fluent in Spanish or understand it well; the busboy seemed lost when I inquired about the Birria, whether it was made with beef or goat, in Spanish.
During my visit to South Texas, I was looking forward to some comfort food to wrap up my trip, and this restaurant did not disappoint. The Chilaquiles were delicious and perfectly crispy, and I really enjoyed the Negra Modelo as well. Plus, it’s conveniently located near the airport.
We’ve been searching for a taste of home in Texas, and we found it at Amigos. While nothing can quite compare to authentic Tex-Mex, this place comes pretty close without breaking the bank. Our group of four tried the wet burrito plate, several hard shell tacos, and a burrito. Everyone enjoyed their meals and left satisfied. I think you’ll feel the same way!
