Wonder Meals - Kaleen

First, calling a restaurant "Wonder Meals" will make it the bud of many jokes. "Let's have a wonderful time at Wonder Meals." "If Happy Meals at McDonald's make you happy, what do Wonder Meals make you do?" I have got a tonne of these now.When you walk in, the restaurant manager must like flowers as they are everywhere. No frills decor, no Chinese art, simple design chairs and furniture. At times, the place feels like a memorial with all those flowers.Since the restaurant was quiet that night, we could also hear everything in the kitchen... Everything. A door to dampen the noise would help.Then the food arrived, and it was nice! Simple, clean food. For me, it is the food that matters. The food is very mainland Chinese style, so it is different from the other Chinese restaurants you may have been to. Prices are reasonable, $20-$50 a dish. We only tried a few dishes. Maybe we were lucky, maybe the other dishes are not as tasty. However, we had a good meal that night.In summary, the restaurant is a hidden gem. If the place made a few improvements to the front of the house, lose the flowers and change the name, the restaurant could be a real hit. All the best to this restaurant. Take an hour for serving food, bad management ever that I seen hospitality industry. If they short staff it should hiring more staffs rather than taking a risk running a business. Food taste sweet not authentic. Very disappointed, never visit again.

We have waited nearly an hour after ordering. All other tables got their meal as we ordered at the same time. After an hour our first two dishes came and another two dishes never showed up. Extremely disappointed! Won't come again that's for sure.

Delicious. The meat in my beef soup was melt in your mouth tender. The fried pancakes were delightful. Lots of lovely flavours in each of the dishes. Nice service. We shall return!

I can inderstand that people may not enjoy this food as its a lot different to the usual Chinese menu in Canberra. However, if you enjoy proper authentic regional chinese cuisine then I truly could not reccomend a better restaurant in Canberra. brings back a lot of fond memories.
