Shirley's In The Woods Cafe' - Kalkaska

One of my favorite touches is the checkerboard designs painted on all the tables! I’ve included a photo for you to see. My husband and our two sons happily entertained themselves playing checkers while we waited for our breakfast. What I appreciate most about this clever idea is that instead of seeing families glued to their devices, we got to enjoy some classic, offline fun right at our table! Hats off to Shirley's in the Woods for countering the digital trend with good old-fashioned games! The food was delicious and the portions were enormous! I was pleasantly surprised to discover that everything is homemade. The bread featured thick slices that tasted just like what Grandma used to make! Since we drove through to pick up our son from summer camp, stopping here was definitely worth it. My husband even changed our usual route on the freeway, and we are so glad he did! We might have just found a new favorite stop.

Amazing! The service was exceptional and very friendly. The food was fantastic! I chose the all-you-can-eat fish and could only manage one plate! The homemade bread was incredible, and I can't say enough wonderful things about this place!

I absolutely love this restaurant! It's a fantastic spot to eat, offering generous portions at a great value and plenty of homemade dishes. I always make sure to grab a couple of their freshly baked loaves of bread before I leave. Give it a try once, and you’ll definitely want to return. It's conveniently located next to the Bluebear ORV trailhead parking lot off M-72, so you can easily ride over on a dirt bike or ATV. Just be prepared—it's a bit tricky to ride back with all the leftovers, haha!

We LOVE Shirleys!! Most Amazing place. Their food is absolutely Delicious and homemade from the heart . The staff is super special every time we get take out . The friendliness genuine. Many Many praises here. Making sure you have everything as well as 'extras '. Thank you guys so much! Glad we 've discovered you and thank you for going above and beyond when times are so difficult for many and especially the restaurant industry

If I could 've gave it 10 stars, I would 've!! Hands down, the best hash browns I 've ever had. Excellent menu selection, easy on the wallet, plus home-made pies, cookies, and bread to-go. This place was swamped. Literally packed with people, and the service was still very fast. And extremely friendly! I love little hole in the woods cafe restaurants. They are some of the greatest hidden gems of northern Michigan and this one is definitely one you don 't want to just pass by. It 's a fantastic stop for families, couples, and lone travelers. Also within sight of trail crossings for the hungry pack of snowmobilers and ATV riders.
