El Mexicano - Kankakee

I stopped in with my SO for lunch and had one of their lunch specials. The dishes we ordered were WELL portioned and included a fountain drink! One important note is that the plate of food with drink was much cheaper 8.95 tax) than ordering a chalupa with chips/ cheese dip and SMALL fountain at Taco Bell for lunch the week before $13.67 incl. tax). I was very pleased and I highly recommend this as a Great lunch stop!!

Food was really good! But it's definitely more tex-mex vs authentic Mexican food.

It was a good lunch. In and out and the salsa and chips were awesome.

Because of the proximity to the hotel where I am staying I walked over to El Mexicano Restaurant, selected what looked like one of the smaller dishes, and was surprised by the size of the serving that was provided without compromising the quality of the food. Service was prompt and very friendly, the Margaritas doubly enjoyable because I would be walking back to the hotel (not driving! and still the final bill was very tolerable. Overall, I did not expect an enjoyable experience like that in a restaurant chosen by proximity, not based on reviews.PS: reading through some of the earlier, negative reviews and looking at the posted photos, it seems things have changed very much for the better (for example the food presentation compared to three years ago.

Service was good atmosphere was good. Meat was cooked perfectly but had little to no flavor.
