A delightful pub in a quaint village. Came here for Sunday lunch. The landlady was fantastic due to being a coeliac. Lots of gluten free options. Really decent portion sizes and the food was delicious.
The pub and restaurant are nicely decorated, the staff attentive and welcoming however we came for a family meal and the food was overpriced and distinctly average at best. For example my starter was described as..... Pan fried King Prawns, white wine, garlic and chilli butter and crusty bread .....what I actually got was 4 king prawns in a sweet chilli dipping sauce straight out of a bottle! Despite ordering a Sirloin Steak rare I 'm 99% certain I was served a Rib Eye steak .....the shape was wrong for a sirloin steak and the marbling throughout the meat was reminiscent of Rib eye....plus it was overcooked. £8 for my king prawn starter and £29 for a steak is at the higher end for pub food in my opinion ....I didn 't think the quality was reflected in the price.....looking back I was disappointed. My wife had Sea Bass ...which again was overcooked. I 'm actually surprised as the Wheatsheaf is now under the same ownership as the Woolpack at Islip our usual restaurant of choice) and the food there is exceptional in comparison. Maybe we were just unlucky last night and had a poor meal, however I 'm not risking a repeat visit.
Had lunch today and both myself and my partner had the chicken Kiev and it was absolutely fantastic, my partner said it was the best she's ever had. Great pub and great food!!!
Incredible service, food, drink and atmosphere. Absolutely loved it. Would highly recommend will be going back for sure.
