Avalon Gastropub - Kilauea

I don't think I can say enough how great this place is. Food, drinks, whisky and dessert are all great. If you are a whisky lover, this is a nice change of the pace of all tropical drinks you will probably be on the island anywhere else. Gabe and Ali are the owners. They really know their stuff and try to give you an excellent experience every time. Pub Steak is excellent and comes with a chipotle butter that is bomb. You also usually have some specials that are also really good (imaginatively mounted is a bomb pork chop). For Dessert we always did the sticky toffe pudding and if you were in any Gordon Ramsey restaurant, there is a run for her money. We went a few times when we stayed in Kapaa and left when we lived in the Grand Hyatt, although it's a bit further from there. Here's this GOOD! Will go back 100% every time we get back to Kauai.

Had a group of 12 and when booking, I experienced some of the best customer service I ever had. They just accommodated us and were happy to do that. Had some of the best service ever, from all servers. I never felt like one of us had waited too long for something – a refill, appetizers, entrees, etc. The owner even came outside to talk to us all, and let us feel honestly like family. His wife makes the desserts there, which I highly recommend the bread pudding. The smoked poutineries were great, and the Scotch egg is worth trying!! They really took care of our experience, and we will definitely return. Because it's our first time in Kauai, I wouldn't have asked for a better restaurant experience. Thanks Avalon!

The food is phenomenal. This was our first meal after arrival and it was certainly not disappointed. These smoked wings are the best wings we ever had, even without sauce. We are from NC, we know good BBQ and smoked meat, and these wings definitely put up the bar. The ono fish and chips were exactly what we were looking for on the islands. They were fresh and the dough was delicious. The flourless chocolate cake and the PB ice cream finish the meal with the perfect finish. The whisky mai tai is a spin on the traditional, but it was also a big drink. Recommend Avalon when you are on the island. Be sure to make a reservation only in case.

I would highly recommend a meal at Avalon while in Kauai! We had the scotch egg, Asian tacos, truffle fries, fried brussel sprouts, pot pie of the day (turkey, carrots, bechamel, mashed potatoes), and deep fried brioche bread pudding. The Asian tacos were my least favorite but everything else was outstanding. They definitely seemed short staffed but the food was worth the wait. We got there at around 5/6 pm on a Wednesday and were able to get outdoor seating. However, it got busier as the evening progressed and it seemed like reservations were needed for eating later in the evening. Definitely worth a visit!

Good food, great beer and cocktail selection. Starter: I appreciate the reviews for scotch eggs... so good. The first time we've found a sour beer in hawaii. Would not hate to be the new Belgium guy who supplies this restaurant.
