Bidra med feedbackOverall, this restaurant was okay. We like trying new places and wanted to give this themed restaurant a shot. We walked in to the bookstore and knew to wait for the hostess. She stayed in theme and was very friendly and fun and loved that we had and used the password and said we were the first people to use it in days. Speakeasy... password... DUH. We came early to sit at the bar, which the restaurant obliged, and had a few cocktails. The cocktails were excellent, the bruschetta was mediocre and not worth $8-9. The weirdest part at the bar was that we sensed tension between the bartenders and servers. I’m not sure what that was about but my husband and I looked at each other and noticed immediately. After our cocktails, we sat at our table. Our server was not warm, nor overly friendly. Granted, we had sat at the bar for a little while but as soon as we sat at our dinner table, she asked us what we wanted to order. We did not partake in salads or more appetizers and immediately ordered entrees, both of which were pretty good, although the pricing seemed off on the one my husband had due to portion size. The ambiance is fine, but if they’re going to call themselves a Speakeasy, it needs to be bigger and just... more. More decor, more theme, something. I don’t really regret trying G&S, but I probably won’t go back to the OBX location. Stick to the classic seafood spots you know and love when in Nags Head, KDH, and Kitty Hawk!
The food and service were incredible. This restaurant is a must-visit. The drinks and food were exceptional. It was definitely worth every penny. I will definitely be returning! The cheese platter is a must-have, and the steaks were so tender that you didn't even need a knife.
Definitely a unique atmosphere.. not what I expected judging from the outside! The look on my boyfriends face when we walked into the “bookstore” was priceless. The “speak-easy” vibe added an element of surprise and we enjoyed the overall ambience. The bartender was super helpful and made an off the menu cocktail for me! Service was great, blackened tuna was a little over cooked but otherwise it made for a fun, romantic evening. Would recommend!
I get the speak easy vibe they’re going for but I’ve seen it done much better. This place looked like an old Pondarosa. The decor was off for a swanky speak easy vibe they’re menu was alluding too. The cocktails were the best part. Very interesting. The food was okay. The music was good but i was afraid to talk because it was so quiet! Our waitress Lana was great and nice. I wish we would have been around for one of the burlesque brunches, I’d be interested in seeing how they do that!
What a fun place! It was a step into the past prohibition era with lots of interesting idioms from the time delivered with wit and music. The food was beautifully presented and everything tasted perfect! The Milepost 9.75 drink was very good along with the fun name! I will not forget where this restaurant gem is! We ate spinach salad, steak local fresh fish. The strawberry shortcake was the best I’ve ever had. Thank you Open Table for suggesting this restaurant based on our history! We never would have found it on our own! Highly recommend. I definitely will return!
