Bidra med feedbackTurning off the main road onto a dirt road and driving for 20 minutes into the wilderness is not something one usually does to find a great dining experience. But this is exactly what one will do to find the "Salmon Camp". After that 20 minute drive you come to a little lodge nestled at the foot of a mountain directly across from the flowing Margaree River. It is a cozy spot with a warm and inviting dining room. A huband and wife team run the lodge - she does the serving and he does the cooking. We were a group of 9 and we tried the fish and chips, pork tenderloin wrapped in bacon, sirloin steak, chicken curry, caesar salad, and poutine. Each dish was delicous, big, and hearty. The fish in-particular was amazing! For dessert we tried the warm apple pie and triple-chocloate cake, both of which quickly disappeared. The food, warm hospitality, and unique locale make this place truly one-of-a-kind. If you find yourself in Margaree, it is definitely worth the dirt-road drive!
Also known as "The Salmon Camp"This literally is the end of the road, but so worth it. Big Intervale was a real town in 1900, but now is the most remote accessible portion of the Margaree River. The drive from the Margaree Valley is a step back in time and a chance to soak up Nature's beauty. Our European hosts prepared a lovely dinner of scallops and shrimp with garlic cream soup followed by maple syrup vanilla ice cream and tea. Such quality in the wilderness is unforgettable. If you are new to the area, you may need help with the directions. Good luck.
People drove hours to come to this restaurant for the food! The pork chop with bacon, salmon and steaks are all very delicious. I wish I stay long enough to try all the dishes. The dessert of apple pie with ice cream are so good! Yum, yum, yum! They also had the best gravy (must be a secret recipe )! The food is one of the highlights in this trip!
Big Intervale was so refreshing. The accommodations were excellent, the food was plentiful and quality, and the fire pit was good to come back to and relax by at the end of a long day. I had my doubts about the nine-mile trip in but found the road in good repair and actually quite pleasant. Herman and Ruth were gracious hosts. Thank you for making our stay so pleasant and memorable.
We were a family of four, brother, sister and 80-something parents, who needed a place to stay for a night between golfing in Inverness and Ingonish. We managed to secure a reservation at the fishing lodge. What a delight! Though the road in worried one of us, upon arrival, serenity and calm took over. Ruth welcomed us warmly, got us the keys to our spare but comfortable adjoining cabins, and we then went for dinner. Wow. It turns out Ruth's partner is a chef, and we were treated to a starter of velvety pumpkin soup, followed by a pork tenderloin with luscious chanterelle gravy, garden-fresh veggies and rosti. Hermann, the chef, came out of the kitchen to chat with us and accept our compliments. We slept like rocks and began our day with a terrific breakfast, prepared and served with genuine care by this exceptional couple. Ruth made some suggestions for brief hikes, one of which we took, and hoped that we would be back soon. I know I will be.
