L'armateur - La Rochelle

This restaurant is a little off the ‘beaten track’ which works in its favour. So many restaurants in the tourist areas of La Rochelle serve mediocre food that I was beginning to despair of finding somewhere I felt I could recommend. The interior has a sort of industrial chic style about it. Tables are well spaced apart and the chairs very comfortable. The serving staff were all very friendly and attentive. Everything we ate from Le Formule menu (23€ was very good. There appears to be no wine list, there is a cave (wine shop as part of the premises and you simply say which wine you would like e.g. Pinot noir and a bottle appears. This slightly confused us as we had no idea how much the wine would be but it transpired to be very good and quite reasonable. Unusually we did not drink the whole bottle and a cork was offered so we could take the remainder home.

A large restaurant with a ratio of price unbeatable! excellent choice of wines for all scholarships. Go see your eyes closed! Great service.
