This is a local small business so please support. My review however is honest. The gumbo is actually pretty good and taste like a rough is made daily. I also order the crab cake for an appetizer and it was good just quite a bit of filling and not enough crab. The ambiance is very Mardi Gras which is something I love they're incorporating the Cajun. However the entree I ordered was fried catfish and shrimp and the shrimp were like the ones you get at the store and place in the oven. The fish was fried but not catfish it was the Swai fish. I'm giving three stars simply for the appetizers and stellar service.
Mrs. Lively's is a great family restaurant with wonderful live music on the weekends. The food is true cajun cuisine cooked to perfection! Such a great hidden gem in Lake Dallas! Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $10–20
Probably the only time I’ve felt the need to leave a review while still in the restaurant or leave a review for a restaurant at all. I am usually not picky or like to make a fuss about things (and in fact go out of my way to not make a fuss or be rude , however the experience we had here was genuinely AWFUL. First, I ordered a sweet tea that tasted like it had been sitting out for a week. Like I said, I’m usually not picky or fussy. However, I genuinely wanted to throw up after drinking it. It was disgusting and I’m sure a filter isn’t being cleaned regularly, which made me uneasy about the food. Didn’t want to be rude so just asked for a water instead. The music was so incredibly loud and I had to scream (not exaggerating! so the person right next to me could hear (and vice versa . This restaurant to me is a really weird venue for loud music. It’s small and the sound has nowhere to go. Though the music wasn’t bad, I want to be able to actually hear who I’m talking to at a restaurant. It was so loud I could feel the vibration through the floor and walls. After a long day, I was looking forward to just relax and talk with friends and family, but I couldn’t even enjoy or hear the conversation with the music. I legit left with a headache. We also waited close to an hour and a half for our food. This, I do understand since we had a larger group and they were short staffed. Completely understandable. However, we fully saw other tables who had sat down way after us get their food, finish their food, and leave. The restaurant also was not crowded at all. We asked when the food was coming, the manager said verbatim “it’s coming out right now!” Then we waited another 10 minutes. And not even all of it was ready. The actual food was okay, although I asked for my burger to be cooked medium and the inside was insanely pink like it had just been on the grill for a minute or two. My dad, who used to work as a professional chef, said that my burger was nowhere close to medium and even wanted to say something to the cook because of how pink it was. After that I got grossed out and couldn’t finish it. The manager was super nice and did offer us free beignets for the wait, but the food was not worth the experience at all. Maybe some other person’s cup of tea, but I’ll go somewhere where I can actually eat and talk next time.
