Bidra med feedbackI've been a couple of times, I don't think I'm going back. It's ostensibly charming, traditional decor inside, canalside and park location, and I enjoy the resilience in a setting of crazily over developed flats across the water. The service is always grumpy though and the lack of card payment is very tedious, inexcusable in 2022. People carry minimal cash these days and it's only £40 for an iZettle... The cask ales seem well kept but the beers are overpriced, I paid £12 for a Guinness and an ale, which is excessive, and to make things worse I got short changed. The guy behind the bar argued the toss and asked a regular to turn me upside down to see if I was lying. I rarely write a negative review but in this case I think 2 stars is deserved. There's a lot of choice for excellent pubs in the area so I'm hoping improvements will be made or I fear this place will peter out and close.
If you've seen the movie Midnight in Paris, well this is what The Palm Tree is like: stepping into another dimension, another time, another place. Great atmosphere, live jazz and friendly staff and audience. Remember to bring cash, your cats in that epoque doesn't work :
A real gem of a place, full of character and not at all pretentious. Come on Friday or Saturday to hear some of the best jazz singing ever. Absolute treasure.
The best pub in London. Unchanged since the 1970s and still run by the same friendly family. You won’t get a more authentic east end experiences than The Palm Tree, first class.
This place truly is a hidden gem. Its absolutely full of character and the slightly out-of-place location just adds to that. The only (and I mean only) downside is that the range of beers is slightly lacking. Word of warning: they only accept cash!
