Sushi 101 - Los Angeles

Last night, we ordered a generous selection of dishes, including Yellowtail collar and mushroom Miso soup, many of which we had never tried before. Everything was served promptly and tasted fantastic. When my wife asked me to guess the total, I estimated $45, but it came to just $35, including beer! The restaurant was about 75% full on a Friday night at 6:30 PM, which speaks to its popularity. If you value quality and have an open mindset, you'll enjoy the experience. Don’t expect an enthusiastic "Ohai-O!" greeting; instead, you’ll receive a warm welcome. One quirky detail I love is that you have to step over a rather unremarkable drainpipe right at the entrance. The ambiance of the restaurant reminds me of those famous Japanese teacups with a rough, imperfect finish—this concept of "wabi-sabi" truly resonates throughout the place. Their uncomplicated friendliness is a breath of fresh air. As an added bonus, when we walked in, we were greeted by soft jazz from Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie. They also played tunes from Louis Armstrong and other early jazz legends. It’s a uniquely soothing experience, and I imagine Joni Mitchell and Elvis Costello might enjoy it, but I can't quite see Elton John fitting in, if you catch my drift. Give it a try—or don't, because I love that it’s usually around 75% full, and I wouldn't mind if it stayed that way. I'm only sharing this because we genuinely appreciate the place and want to express that out loud. Parking is easy, too. It’s located in the least glamorous strip mall in Studio City, where the nail salon and cleaners are closed, so you’ll never have a problem finding a spot.

This is a fantastic spot for all-you-can-eat sushi! The rolls come to your table quickly, and you get three rounds to order. Make sure to maximize your first round by ordering as much as you can, and use the remaining rounds to either reorder your favorites or sample some new flavors!

Super nice staff, very delicious sushi. Definitely a notch above most in quality, without being super expensive.
