Bidra med feedbackTu Madre is one of the great local mainstays of Los Feliz and I'm very glad they are the ones to have taken over the former Fleiss house on Russell. These are incredibly flavorful tacos with some very inventive choices. My wife favors the ahi tuna tacos, I like all the street tacos. For healthier choices, we also like doing the bowls with half rice/half kale, also very tasty. Dessert should not be forgotten, the red velvet churros are the specialty and you must order them.
Tacos Tu Madre is just about the exact definition of yah it 's pretty good . I 'm giving it a 3 stars because it took way longer to get our food than expected. Especially considering we were the only ones there at the time. We took the food to go and ordered a sweet and sour burrito, sweet and sour taco, a fried chicken taco, and a carne asada taco. The sweet and sour burrito was good but the flavor became a lot as I kept eating more. I appreciate the menu items and the adventurous spirit in this place to try new flavors of burritos and tacos. I think i 'll be back in the future to give it another try, but my experience was pretty much exactly middle of the road pretty good .
WARNING !! Do NOT eat here. I ordered a fish burrito only to bite into BEEF when I called and told them this dark brown mince is not COD they told me no thats how it came.. I insisted COD is a white fish and would not cook in anyway to be somewhat of a minced meat very dark brown with not even a fake meat type consistency .. proper beef. My room mate informed me that the violent food poising they had last month was also from here.. this placed used to be good but is straight up dangerous now. The staff can't tell beef from fish and the meat gives people food poisoning.
The crispy shrimp burrito was bomb! Great textures. Burrito wrap was nice and toasted. The shrimp was crispy. The sauces were a nice addition to the flavors. Highly recommend!
I 've eaten here more times in the past couple of weeks than I should have... through Postmates, because I live in LA and it 's ridiculous to leave your house and pick up food in your neighborhood.. there 's parking, raaaain, and it 's cold, bleh. I usually end up going for a bowl, the 1st time ever, I ordered grilled fish and got chicken, the whole, I kept going, this fish is interesting, yeah, because it was marinated chicken! But it 's okay, people make mistakes and at least I 'm not pescatarian anymore. Since, I 've had the carne Asada bowl a couple of times, random tacos I 'm craving, and once I accidentally added on the red velvet churro at 11pm.... everything is well seasoned and zesty, the turmeric will stain a white shirt, the prices are definitely higher than authentic Mexican food, and also doesn 't taste authentic , it 's fusion done right, and defiantly tastes a tad bit healthier than what I would get from a Mexican food truck or King Taco. The other night after the gym, I said to myself, I need protein for butt day, and since I was already driving, it seemed really lazy for me to Postmates, so I drove by- thank god the parking Gods left a spot open for me! I was in the mood for a burrito. Was going to go for the Carne Asada but the cashier recommend the carnitas burrito- I 'm not a huge fan of pork, but he said the marinate and cooked it there, but I gave it a try. And, omgooosh it was delicious! And it was then that I realized, they serve an avocado salsa. So now, when I Postmates, I make sure to ask for 2 cups on the side! I 've heard their fried chicken taco is amazing too, so I 'll definitely be back here to try other things. Glad to have this spot in the area.
