Esplanada Dark - Madalena

Called here whilst waiting for a ferry ordered 2 glasses of wine……horrified to be charged 17euros for this. There were no menus or price lists and I was not given a receipt. Service was poor no table service! I queried the bill and the waitress unapologetically confirmed the wine was indeed 8.50 euros a glass avoid at all costs.

We ate here twice while visiting and Pico and each time was delicious with excellent service! Traditional food! Amazing flavors!

Expensive tourist prices. Cappuccino ok but is served in a paper cup even if you drink it at the location. No go! Spoon was dirty.

Visited this low key café opposite the ferry terminal for lunch and ordered tuna pasta. It turned out to be a dish of undercooked spaghetti with a dollop of what appeared to be a vaguely seafood flavoured, mayonnaise based sandwich filling. Not one flake of tuna fresh or canned in sight, but I was charged €14.50 for the privilege. I questioned the bill as I thought it must be a mistake, but no. The dog was very friendly, so two stars for him. Otherwise, this place is extortionate and I suggest you avoid

Laila, the owner, makes this one of the best spots in the island. A young Brazilian that relocated to Pico and built this amazing bar right in front of the port of Madalena, which turns out to be an awesome restaurant too. The food is excellent, we ordered a couple starters plus main dishes and were super happy with all the food that was brought to us. Definitely recommend stopping by either for a drink or for proper dinner. Have heard there are some awesome parties going on in Covid-free times
