Bidra med feedbackHas a big spacious seating area. Food here, as goes by all the other reviews, is excellent. Not just the quality even the quantity. Needn't say more. If in Malvan, do not give this a miss.
We'll, its not exactly hidden. When you're heading for the architectural marvel that is the Sindhudurg fort, you'll see few banners of 'Only Fish'. It is very close to the main entrance to the fort, you won't miss it.You'll notice a narrow pathway which leads to the house/kitchen of the restaurant and right next to it is the open air seating. Best part is that they serve beer, rather buy from somewhere else for you. Simple and humble, the walls are covered with huge posters offering information about the town of Malvan, kinds of fish sold, the menu, photographs of festivals, etc. Menu is straight-forward like most; Main dish, fish curry, veggie/dried fish preparation, Chapati, salad, rice and finally Solkadi. We ordered for one Octopus thali (mains being crispy crumb fried octopus) & Soft-sheel Crab masala with rice. The best preparation of Crab I've ever tried and the Octopus was divinely crispy. All this plus one Beer and the total damage was barely Rs.600. I'd surely recommend this place; the fish preparation on the other tables looked quite tempting I must say.
I placed an order but the person taking it got it wrong. The food was just average. I was hoping the Surmai would be bigger and more special compared to what I have had in Pune. They do offer a variety of seafood options like prawns and Tisre (clams) which were delicious. Unfortunately, my wife ordered a vegetarian dish and was disappointed with a basic dal and roti.
Even though the entrance is down a narrow alley, the seating inside is comfortable. As soon as you step in, you'll be greeted by the delicious aroma of fried fish and curry. The food is prepared using fresh ingredients and cooked perfectly in the traditional local style.
We were staying in Kudal and would visit malvan for the meals. the food here is so fresh, tasty, authentic and fingerlicking. NEedless to say that its meant for sea food lovers.
