Motel Mamalla - Mamallapuram

My brother recommended this restaurant for an authentic Tamilnadu vegetarian meal, and I wholeheartedly agree with him. I enjoyed a delicious lunch here.

Travel from Pondicherry to Chennai you do not see too many food options on ECR. But here was an appetizing invitation in the form of Motel Mamalla. Spacious. Clean. Good food. But what impressed me most was a well-coordinated team of endearing hosts and... I'll include everyone who welcomes me here. The user, the steward, the superior, the junior staff... They were friendly, efficient and passionately helpful. Especially Ranjit, a young boy who claimed to be here for 13 years. He carefully introduced me to every component of a traditional 'Thaali', humiliated my bumblebees, entertained me while I ate and refused to accept a tip. He explained, if he accepted the tip, it would be unfair to all the others who are working here full-heartedly. To ensure fairness, he directed my tip to a box to be later divided among all. While this followed a practice in many restaurants, it was the sincerity of his revelation that deeply touched me. In this world, good people are rare to meet. I'm sure this motel satiate your stomach. And your heart. And if you want to defend yourself, please leave a healthy tip in the box. For all wonderful people out here.

Food quality is excellent. They serve traditional South Indian foods such as dosa, idyllic, utappam, vada sambhar etc. The staff is good. Cleanliness is also good. Spacious and elegant place on the eastern cost road. I think it's one of the best restaurants in Mahabalipuram.

I visited this restaurant on the way to Pondicherry with the family and enjoyed the food and service that made me go back with the guys on our trip in the following week. The offered service was very courteous, food tasty to a very reasonable...cost, especially when served on a banana leaf, an authentic way. Go back.
