Bidra med feedbackNo, all the tables aren't wiped down all the time, but this is a wonderful little family owned outdoor restaurant in the sand on the beach, not El Cid or a Four Seasons. Overlook the small stuff and get what you came for...great food at good prices. Breakfast, lunch and dinner; the best pizza-oven-cooked pizza in Mazatlan; sea food, Mexican food, hand made flour tortillas, ice cold beer and to die for margaritas. My wife and I had come here for years, I return upon her passing to remember all the wonderful time we spent here in Mazatlan, Pizza Benji's being my fondness of memories. Stick around after four o'clock or so and into the night when the regular tourists have left, and meet the locals, both gringo and Mexican, and people from all over the world who dingy, quad or walk in, gathering for warm, multi-cultural socialization....and just enjoy it all!
After reading all the negative comments posted here I have begun to believe that the other reviewers must have eaten in a different Benji's! After living on the Isla for more than 3 years I have eaten in all the available restaurants here. Benji's is one of my favorites!! Run by a MEXICAN family all of the meals are exceptionally delicious but the pizza is prepared by hand and will be made exactly to your specifications. Please remember that this is Mexico and people here speak Spanish! If you don't then you should at least know a few words so that you might be able to get your desires recognized. Yes, the meals may take longer here than what you are used to back home. Everything is prepared to order here and is as fresh as can be! A special note to all out there who enjoy a real Mexican Margarita (is there any other kind?). Benji prepares, without question, the BEST Margaritas in ALL of Mazatlan! On the day that you visit yes the beach may have some litter on it just as there might be litter on any beach in our area. Benji's is only one restaurant out of a group that are located on Playa Chivos and they do their best to help keep the beach clean. Parents should note that this is the ONLY beach on the Isla de la Piedra that you may allow your children to play in the water wothout fearing for their safety! Benji and his lovely grandaughter are fantastic people who go out of their way to ensure you of a pleasant stay on our island. Oh yes and as to wait time...Relax! You are on the beach in Mexico! Vida esta corta! Order another Margarita lean back, soak up some sun and enjoy our beautiful island and it's fine people!!!!
I usually don't like to give bad reviews but this place was filthy and the service was not good at all. I love to sit and drink ice cold beer, eat, relax, and enjoy the scenery. I've read on the forums how delicious this place was. Well, I've never been more disappointed in "any" place in Mexico in my life. First off, the service was just horrible. The nice lady who waited on us (she was friendly and kind) saw us coming and told us to sit anywhere. We looked around and tried to find a clean table, meaning dirt was on every single chair and table. I wish we would have just turned around and left but I was curious and still wanted to give them a chance. Finally got to order a beer, and, OMG, it was like it had been sitting in the sun ALL day. It was very warm beer. They advertise ice cold beer. (Well, it wasn't even close to being cold) Plus, the beer was twice as much as the places right on the beach at Stone Island. (I can't remember but maybe like 25 or 28 pesos, approximately. Most of the other places right on the big beach are like 18 to 20 pesos) We looked at the menu and were still going to give it a chance, but our server "never" came back to take our order. After seeing how disgustingly dirty the bathrooms were, I left. That's it. Even the kitchen looked filthy. I saw somebody getting an order of fried fish, which I happen to love and do order that at lots of places, but their fried fish looked like a tiny little fish about the size of a small lady's hand. Remember, this is the "whole" fish so it had the tail and head on it. There wasn't enough fish on that plate to fill "anybody" up. Plus it looked greasy. As they were walking by to put it on a patron's table, it even smelled bad, like burnt grease. No, thank you. Too many other great places to eat while in Mazatlan.
Buen servicio y excelentes precios, no nos cobraron las aletas, la playa está limpia y no hay oleaje
My wife and I have been wanting to check this place out for years because of the great reviews. We arrived on December 17 at about 2pm and the place was empty except for the employees. We were invited to sit anywhere. We walked around looking for a chair that wasn't filthy and could not find any so they watched as we brushed off the thick dirt with our hands. We would sit in dirty chairs but this was disgusting. The tables were filthy also, but they came and wiped the one off we were sitting at. We ordered a couple beers and asked for a menu. It took a while for the room temperature beers to arrive. We were still going to order but they were in no hurry to ask so we asked for the bill. These two warm beers were the most expensive beers we had next to the ice cold ones at Pancho's. We will never waste our time on this place again. They should be embarrassed when there are many restaurants at Stone Island that are clean and good and that serve cold beer.
