Taiwan Cafe - Melbourne

This is one of the busiest little cafes I've seen in recent years. We wanted a quick dinner the other day in-between different screenings at the Melbourne International Film Festival, and stumbled on this place. With an overwhelmingly youthful (student?) and Asian clientele, the New Taipei Dumpling and Noodle Cafe (notice the cafe's complete change of name) serves up a large range of Taiwanese dishes. Apart from the dumplings there is a good selection of main dishes of all varieties. We ordered a plate of green beans and minced pork- which was excellent if a little pricey, and a plate of pot stickers (as they used to be called) i.e. fried dumplings. These were pretty average and I think we'd have done better ordering one of the steamed dumpling dishes. Service was competent and quick in spite of the hectic coming and going of customers. The main dishes were overpriced in our view although the dumplings and snacks were more reasonable. So, a good place to sample Taiwanese dishes when you're in a rush but the price should be adjusted downwards for the mains.

Tried the spicy xiao long bao, Kung pao chicken and shanghai fried noodles. The baos were just amazing and bursting with juices. The chicken and the noodles were great too. But the best part was the attentive service by Naya. We will be back!!

This shop is often frequented by many students probably for their Authentic Taiwanese taste food at student friendly prices. It has been renovated and prices have been raised. There is an open dumplings kitchen where you can see the cook making dumplings.I ordered a takeaway for dinner and it's the same packing as before with similar taste. This is a nice place to go for comfort Taiwanese food around the CBD area.It's not a cafe as their previous name suggested.

Dropped in here on my way to a meeting for a quick lunch. Ordered the beef noodle soup. Truly excellent with a generous serving of beef. Recommended.

Service is poor, but by all standards that is expected. Food was phenomenal!! Pricing works well. Good experience and would go again.
