After asking and receiving the wine list I found that it contained a choice of 3 white wines, however after asking I discovered that 3 better ones were available. To her credit I was allowed to try 2 of these. We had a mystery tasting menu, consisting of 6 courses plus a bread one and fudge to finish. Extraordinarily three of these including the pudding had far too much salt in them, so that my wife couldn't eat two of them. This was despite comments given about each course. We were initially the sole diners so it beggars belief that the chef permitted such food to leave his kitchen without tasting them. He did apologise about one of the courses. It was gravely apparent that the poor lady serving on her own couldn't cope with the influx of locals who had come for a drink plus only two tables who had ordered food. The food however wasn't expensive
Sunday roast was perfectly acceptable but this establishment seems to be on the skids. Ran out of draught beer, ran out of two of four puds and wasn’t even busy or late in the day. There was a choice of apple crumble or espresso rice. Only one portion of crumble left so I gave the wife first dibs. I opted for the expresso rice which was the most disappointing pudding I have ever had the displeasure to have been served. Looked like something that had been dredged out of a swamp and to say the rice was al dente is being kind, nearly cracked my dentures ! sickly sweet pile of muck The wife’s crumble came without any lubrication which was a first, never not been offered cream ,custard or ice cream to accompany before .
Amazing roast especially the potatoes which were in abundance! All the sides were lovely too and meat was great quality. Maybe could do more on the service side of things, but lovely meal.
A real gem! Amazing sumday roast!! Simple but delicious menu for roast dinners but the ‘normal’ menu looks incredible and we’ll definitely be back to try this! Service and ambience were spot on! Wish there were more pubs like this in Bristol, so we drove 45 minutes especially to try this place and it was absolutely worth it!
