The Papaya Lady - Merced

I've had a few experiences at this restaurant where I've had to walk out due to the long wait times. It wasn't because there were a lot of customers; there was no line at all, just incredibly slow service. The woman who made the drinks was moving at a snail's pace. It took her over five minutes to prepare just two drinks, and just when I thought she was finished, she went off to make papaya salad. All I wanted was a drink, and she could have served me first so I could be on my way, but she didn’t even ask. I arrived super early to get an iced coffee, only to end up running late for work—and the coffee ended up being sour. Next time, I'll just stop by the Thai restaurant instead. It seems like she could really use some extra help in the kitchen.

I absolutely love the food! The flavors are incredible. The customer service is excellent too. This has become my new favorite spot in Merced. Both the drinks and the food are amazing, and the prices are very reasonable. They tend to sell out quickly, so be cautious. Once you try the food, you’ll understand why! Food: 5/5

If you are in the Merced area, you absolutely HAVE to visit the Papaya Lady!! Absolutely amazing Laotian food at such a great price, made with love and always fresh. The Papaya Lady is tucked in a convenience store and run by a mom and pop duo who are SUPER friendly and kindhearted. Seriously the nicest people ever. They only do takeout. We ordered the red curry, the khao poon (noodle curry soup), mild and spicy papaya salad, chicken wing and sticky rice, and the coconut milk tapioca drink. All were so so so tasty, but my favorites were the khao poon and red curry. So fragrant, fresh, and delicious. They also do Vietnamese iced coffee and Thai iced tea. Both also amazing. A MUST VISIT!

Finally!! I can checked this off my bucket list. The papaya salad was hot, spicy, and so so good. Better than good. Best papaya salad in California.Food: 5/5
