Bake Out - Mid Sussex

On Thursday, April 28, 2022, I purchased an eat-in meal at Bakeout in Hassocks. When I asked a female staff member for salt, she informed me that Bakeout does not provide salt to customers because their meals are already seasoned with enough salt. I suggested that it should be up to the customer to decide, but the staff member insisted that Bakeout does not offer salt to customers due to health concerns. I was taken aback and decided to give up at that point. Needless to say, I will not be returning to Bakeout in Hassocks. The attitude and customer service were both appalling.

First time to BAKEOUT and this is MUST It’s the cutest little bakery with delicious bakes. The marmite cheese straws and apple danish are to die for, The service me and my friend received was so amazing and we will definitely be back again. They made us feel welcomed and gave us an amazing experience.

I declined to buy a loaf today in Bake Out in Hassocks because the assistant picked it up with his bare hands. When I said that this was unacceptable as he was then going to handle the money he gave him, he assured me that he sanitised his hands. An older employee intervened but at no stage was I offered an apology. I left the shop without my loaf. I later saw that the loaf had been returned to the shelf for sale. Previously I have seen employees pick up loaves with a ‘plastic sheet’ so that they didn’t actually touch the loaf. I have always found the quality of the products they sell to be very good, but the level of hygiene today was unacceptable. I would have emailed the company but they don’t appear to have a website. An assurance about future hygiene levels is expected before I go in there again.

Popped in today for the first time. Amazing fresh bread. The cinnamon swirl danish was one of the best ever. Still got to try my sausage roll but if it tastes as good as it looks I won’t be disappointed. Very friendly staff. I will definitely be making this a regular place to visit when I’m in hassocks.

Sad to see such a negative report. Whatever the August client's experience we have always been delighted with this bakery. The sourdough seeded bread is truly dellcious, as is their trio of mini quiches. Yes, they do run out of various products that is the downside of popularity but you can order in advance. The staff could not be more friendly and cheerful. Hassocks is lucky to have Bake Out in the village.
