I decided to give this place a chance, but I was extremely disappointed. The fried shrimp still had their shells on, which was off-putting. The Chili Chicken dish I ordered consisted mostly of carrots and celery, with very little chicken on top. I will not be returning to this restaurant.
I was thrilled to discover a Chinese restaurant and may have gotten carried away with ordering out of excitement. After spending $78, my group of four excitedly looked at all the food we had ordered, only to be disappointed by the lack of flavor, soggy noodles, and overall disappointment. The worst part was that none of us even wanted to take the leftovers home, which is usually unheard of.
I ordered a variety of dishes for my family of three, but we were unable to finish any of them. From the soup to the rice to the two different meat dishes, everything lacked flavor and was of very poor quality. The sweet and sour sauce was diluted, the wonton soup tasted like colored water, and the meat was tough. Chinese food is one of my favorite cuisines, and I have dined at some amazing restaurants that serve flavorful dishes. This place was a complete disappointment. I will not be returning as it was a waste of $40.
Looking at some of the other reviews posted about this place, I had high hopes for China Star. According to Trip Advisor, China Star is the number one Chinese restaurant in the Milton area (which isn 't saying much). For some reason , in my own mind, I had equated the number one Chinese food restaurant with Authentic Chinese food. This was not the case! My family decided to order Chinese for dinner for family day. We found the menu online and placed an order. I was optimistic as the menu didn 't seem to specialize solely in Canadianized Chinese dishes (chicken balls with red sauce, egg rolls, sweet and sour pork, etc) and actually had some things on the menu that Chinese people might actually order! Boy, were we disappointed when we got our meal. How this place got the number one ranking for Chinese restaurants in Milton, I have no idea! Actually, I shouldn 't say that, because I know exactly why most of the Chinese food joints in Milton serve much of the same sort of bland, vanilla fare that is far from authentic and fits the palate and tastes of the majority of Miltonians. It felt like the typical meal you would order at the Manchu Wok in the food court of your local mall and is no different from the type of stuff you would get at other Milton Chinese food restaurants like Empire Wok or Mr.Dumpling. I 'm pretty sure these places aren 't serving dim sum cart service and you aren 't going to be able to get siu Mai or har gow, scallion pancakes or roasted Peking duck. I 'm fairly certain you would get a more authentic Chinese meal eating at Mandarin! While the demographics of the city are constantly changing, the food scene here has a long way to catch up to other GTA burbs that have a vibrant foodie culture and lots of ethnic options. We got an order of Hot and Sour soup and it was tasteless and bland. The house special Cantonese Chow Mein was all right but the Szechuan Beef and Chicken with Black Bean Sauce tasted almost identical. Portions were decent. Our bill came to $63 and we got a 10% discount because we paid cash. It was ready in 20 minutes. If you have a hankering for genuine, authentic Chinese food, drive the 20 minutes to get to somewhere in Mississauga to get some. China Star is gut fill and that 's about it.
