Overall, the food was quite good, but the service left a lot to be desired. We paid with a credit card and were told that we could “just sign and leave the tip in cash.” I filled out the receipt as I usually do and included a tip. However, the waiter returned and said, “Don’t say this, but we don’t receive any tips unless they’re in cash.” I then responded that I would leave a tip in cash, but he insisted that we just leave the money on the table and he would adjust the receipt to remove the tip amount (he refused to give it back to us). At that point, I felt like we were being taken advantage of, but the waiter was hovering nearby, making me feel pressured. We left some cash on the table and left quickly. As expected, the credit card transaction included the tip. It may sound shady, and we did end up leaving cash, but due to this experience, we will not be returning to this restaurant.

That’s why I asked you to leave a cash tip.” He then suggested that we leave the money on the table, and he would adjust the tip on the receipt. He refused to return it to us, and at that point, I felt like we were being taken advantage of, yet I felt pressured because he was hovering nearby. We ended up leaving some cash on the table and left the restaurant quickly. As I suspected, the credit card charge included the tip. I know this sounds quite suspicious, and although we intended to leave cash, this experience has ensured that we won’t be returning.
