Chill Gelato - MONTPELIER

Last month, I had the chance to visit New England, and I can confidently say that this is one of the best gelato shops I've ever been to. The flavors were delicious and incredibly fresh. Additionally, Ania was very helpful during my visit. I highly recommend checking this place out!

What a wonderful spot! The gelato is exceptional, and the service is even more impressive! The staff stayed open a few minutes past closing time and welcomed us in when they noticed us passing by. We will definitely return to this place when we're in the area again!

Additionally, it's important to note that you cannot contact the location directly. I recently called ahead to order a pint, as I was pressed for time. My call went to voicemail, but the owner returned it shortly after. He mentioned that if they weren’t busy, he could have someone prepare my order, though he was calling from his cell phone and not at the store. If they were busy, I could just come in, and they would pack it quickly. I suggested that it might be better to come another time due to my time constraints. He insisted he wanted to accommodate me, saying he would call to arrange it, but he reiterated that I could simply have them pack it when I arrived. While driving into Derby, I received a text that my pint was ready for pickup—great! However, upon entering the store, I found it completely empty, with the two employees happily engaged in conversation while leaning against the counter. When I asked for my pint, they informed me that they still needed to pack it. I declined and also sent a message to the owner to keep him in the loop, but he did not respond. Looking back, I'm not sure it was entirely the staff's fault. If the owner is hesitant to fulfill call-ahead orders—and I think that’s a mistake—he should be clear about it instead of misleading customers. Perhaps they are so busy that they don't feel they need my business, but I find that hard to believe. I've visited the Derby Street location four times since it opened and have only ever purchased two pints to go, often being the only customer in the store. Ice cream is extremely popular in Hingham! The local ice cream shop in Hingham Square always has a line out the door in the evenings. While Gelato Chill's gelato is delicious, there are equally tasty options at other establishments, including supermarket freezers, and at far more reasonable prices. The $14 per pint price tag at Gelato Chill simply doesn’t match their customer service. Upscale restaurants depend on more than just great food to succeed. If your only goal is to enjoy delicious gelato, then Gelato Chill is the place to go. However, if you expect to be treated with honesty and respect, as well as to receive good customer service at a fair price alongside that delicious gelato, I suggest looking elsewhere. One of the reasons I won't be returning to Gelato Chill is that when I informed the owner that my pint wasn’t ready, he didn’t apologize or express any interest in having me try again another time—he said nothing at all!

The guys and I dropped by for some waffle cones, and we were not let down. The customer service was outstanding, and the ice cream was absolutely delicious!

The gelato made in-store is absolutely amazing! They have a variety of unique flavors. We tried the cherry and rocky road, and both were fantastic. I love that they're creamy and full of flavor without being overly sweet. The owner is also very friendly!!!
