Bidra med feedbackVery cozy Russian-Bavarian style restaurant. The food is very good, Russian food is delicious.
The very beautiful but obviously completely overwhelmed waitress (we were 8 people and the place was 75% busy... had a very hard time to maintain. Some dishes were served 30 minutes before others, forget wine, mixed orders. The rupture was fine, the salad as... good, the Russian ravioliist very full. The Kiewer Dessert was pretty good. Not exactly good kitchen, but decent.
Great choice of best Russian cuisine, warm and friendly environment, evening live music. Very popular place for family celebrations, but also during the day a short lunch break is a great choice. Moderate prices and great service not to miss!
I was with some colleagues for diner. The meal was excellent and the ambiance also very good. There are several options of Russian plates and drinks. Try the vodkas and ask for advice to the personnel of this restaurant. One of a kind decoration, plenty...of photos of Russians with the owner of the restaurant. I also took one, although I don’t think that I will be in one of the walls. It’s a must if you are in Montreal.
We had reserved a table many weeks for this, our last night of a two week auto trip through the N.E. U.S.A., Maritime Canada and Quebec. Our hopes were that La Caverne would be a nice ending to a special journey. The evening was far beyond...that in a most special way. From the moment we arrived at the cozy, step down Eastern European bistro, we were warmly welcomed by the family/staff who are La Caverne. Already filling the 40 plus seats were obviously joyful and satisfied diners who came for the ambiance, the food and this Friday night 's live music from a duo who provided solid Euro Rock sounds. Our table was set aside for us in a comfortable portion of the room. From the perfectly served ice cold aperitif of Russian vodka, to the delicious appetizers of beet salad, pea soup and a Georgian meat pie, the nice white house wine, and to Chicken Kiev with all of the trimmings, the meal was graciously served in time frames allowing for relaxation between courses. A light dessert capped off the meal. And instead of leaving after dining, we stayed a while and danced a bit to the great sounds from the tiny stage. It should be noted that my companion is originally from Russia and made the phone rez in her native language. This undoubtedly positively preceded our arrival as we found conversation with the proprietor (in Russian and English) easy and enjoyable during the evening, when he wasn 't looking after others in the room from whom we heard French, English and Russian cheerfully spoken. Having arrived to the Cotes des Neiges neighborhood a bit early, we enjoyed walking around the commercial area before dining. First time visitors are encouraged to also explore this most culturally diverse section of Montreal. A truly memorable evening which we 'll never forget. La Caverne represents Montreal quite well, thank you!
