Poets Cafe - Montville

We had high hopes for this restaurant as it was once considered a must-visit spot for travelers in this beautiful part of our state. We were visiting from the United States with family, and it was embarrassing to bring them here only to be treated like second-class citizens. It was horrifying! The person seating guests, who I assume is the owner, really ought to consider a change in profession; they clearly don’t belong in the hospitality industry!

Incredible! the manager/owner. we're waiting for a place and the guy ask what you're doing here. we say we want a table for 3. He refused us in general and there are empty tables over there. worst experience. incredible!

If I could give 0 star I would give it.The manger was rude and racist. We were party of 10 he denied to combine the table we agreed to sit separate and he also said no he did not want to give us table because we had kids. Some one who has kids and self respect please do not go to this place

I have never come across such a rude, arrogant, p!9 of a man (possibly owner), as I did yesterday. Took my son and my sister who was visiting, to beautiful Montville and decided to have lunch at this cafe for the first time. We were seated inside by a very gruff, rude man who we soon worked out was most probably the owner. When a table outside on the balcony became available, I asked if we could move there so that we could take in the view. He replied with a very rude 'no ', with no explanation. As people turned up and queued for a table, he directed them to the outside tables and it was very obvious that they weren 't reserved especially for them. He walked around the cafe with a permanent scowl on his face and was rude to every customer that walked through the door. The other staff were absolutely lovely and the lunch we had was beautiful, but we will never be returning and I will recommend that none of my friends go there either. Reading other reviews, I 'm defintely not the first unhappy customer. I feel sorry for the beautiful staff that have to work for him. Yes they might have a nice place and view, but the disgusting service from this man ruins the whole experience. Stay away.
