Bidra med feedbackI visited this restaurant with a group of three friends, and we decided to share the bucket of fish and chips, which cost nearly $90—around the same price as ordering individually. The wait for our food wasn't too long, and I appreciated the overhead screen that helped keep the wildlife away, adding to the ambiance. Unfortunately, the fish was thin, curly strips that were greasy and tough. The chips, or garlic fries, were limp and soggy. They provided us with two handfuls of ketchup and an excessive amount of tartar sauce, which seemed necessary given how tough the food was to chew and swallow. Overall, it was a disappointing experience. 09.09.23
As for minor critiques, I personally would have preferred the coleslaw to have a bit less mayonnaise and more vinegar for a sharper taste. My husband mentioned that the fries were cooked a little too long and the garlic flavor was quite strong. Nonetheless, I enjoyed the coleslaw enough to mix it into my sandwich for added flavor and crunch. Overall, I would recommend this place and would happily return if we find ourselves in the area again.
**WARNING!!** I contracted vibrio (a foodborne bacteria) from the oysters and had to go to the ER just 24 hours after eating them. I understand the risks of consuming raw foods, and I don't blame Giovanni's for this, but I felt it was worth mentioning for anyone thinking about enjoying raw oysters this season—I'd recommend steering clear! Everything else we ordered was quite good, but I can't say it was worth the long wait in line, the additional wait for our food, and ultimately getting sick. I'm still recovering, and today marks day 4 of this awful illness!
Definitely not as good as it was a couple years ago but the fish tacos are still great! Check it out during your stay in Morro bay
I've been coming here for 40 years, started in my mama's belly. It's my favorite place in the world with the best seafood. Giovanni's is home.
