Bidra med feedbackVisited the signal restaurant on Saturday night with my wife which I booked online after reviewing the menus on the website which included an al la cart. When we arrived there was a wedding on in the function room as we passed. Upon arrival to the restaurant we were greeted, seated and given a set menu with a limited selection of 4 main courses, one of the main courses listed was a filet steak which we were informed was not available and was substituted with roast beef, we were informed by the girl that seated us that we could also order from the bar menu however when I asked the server to see the bar menu he was quite rude and informed me that if I intended to order from the bar menu I would need to dine in the bar. We both ordered the risotto for starter which looked like it was made the week before, for mains my wife ordered a chicken dish with a side of fries which never came, I ordered the roast beef which looked like it was reheated on a hot plate and has basically un-edible. We were then given desert menus which was very basic. I felt the food was roadside service station quality and it looked like it was recycled from the wedding party. Definitely wouldn’t consider going back which is a pity as the premises is very nice.
We went for an evening meal last weekend to the Signal Restaurant in Kilmessan, which was our first dining experience there. The place itself is very welcoming, the outdoor premises are stunning and the indoor dining area very peaceful and elegant. Unfortunately, the dining experience leaves a lot to be desired, to say the least. One of the 4 main courses on the menu, which happened to be our choice, wasn't available. It was only communicated to us after we finished the starter. Our second attempt at the main meal selection turned out to be even more disappointing. I personally ordered a hake from the menu. Instead, I received a different fish which in its taste and colour resembled a salmon. Although I cannot remember what the fish was called in the end, this can be easily checked against the fish dish served last Saturday. When I asked the waiting staff why I didn't get a hake, it was explained to me they had just found that hake wasn't on the menu that evening. While my husband enjoyed his meal selection after all (despite the fact that his initially chosen dish turned out to be un available), I cannot say the same. I never experienced anything similar to this. The lack of communication between the kitchen and the waiting staff was quite shocking. I should have been informed that my choice of a fish dish wasn't available either, as was my intial choice that evening ravioli. Instead I was served a different fish wthout a word of apology which came only when I questoned the type of fish served. I have to say for an award winning restaurant it is quite a shame to expose customers to such a disappointing dining experience. I enjoyed the company and the peacefulness of the restaurant. However, my intention was to enjoy food as well, therefore I opted for a restaurant and not a hotel.
I had the scallops to start and the John Dory for main. Finished with the creme brûlée: All were finger licking good.
Thank you all so much for another wonderful day. This is our second year in a row to return. Greeted by the lovely receptionist on arrival Orla with a smile and wishing us all a happy Christmas. We were booked for the 3:30 which we arrived early for a festive drink. Orla kindly escorted us over to the main ballroom which was the main seating area for the day that was absolutely beautiful presented, she also introduced us to her charming brother working behind the bar. Jolly Christmas music in the background, candy table for the kids hubby to pick on before dinner... tut, tut. The main hotel looking fab, so different from our last visit. After taking a seat with a beautiful Irish Coffee in hand we finally got to relax and look forward to our meal. Unfortunately our relaxation didn't last long as we encountered the rudest family known to man, blatantly trying to cause a stir from the previous sitting. Disgusting behaviour. We were brought over and seated in the restaurant on arrival to a young fella playing the piano. He later was pouring our wine serving our meal which was so lovely to see. The food was magical, the staff were amazing singing away Christmas songs while busy looking after all of us on Christmas day. Always checking in, smiling. Presented on departure with a goodie bag each for the kid's a homemade treat bag for the myself and the hubby. Nice touch. Location, setting, food and wonderful staff is what makes the station house. I'll be sure to tell all my friends family. Keep up the good work. Happy New year to you all. Tracy Family xx
Went here for Christmas Lunch and and it was a bismal affair. How they can justify the utter **** which was served as a Christmas Lunch. At €120.00 per head to be served a Turkey and ham rolled up on a plate with one roast potato and a piped line of cold creamed mash served with bullets for veg they need to do some explaining. We as guests are to blame as we sat and accepted this poor fare. Only winners here are the owners who are laughing all the way to the bank with the hard earned money of those who decided to dine in this dubious 3 star hotel. Shame on you and shame on myself for not complaining on the day and demanding my money back.
