Bidra med feedbackThe service was alright. The waiter was very pushy on what to get. My friend does not like soba but the waiter still pushed the soba onto him, makes sense since it's a soba spot but once someone says no, don't keep repeating and pushing. The food was alright. The tempura soba was very bland. The dipping sauce was also bland and the serving size was so small. Not worth the price. I also got the tofu. Both the agedashi tofu and the soup tofu appetizer. The agedashi tofu was fine, the soup tofu appetizer was so bland. The soup was literally just water. The actual tofu itself was fine but the flavors weren't really there. Overall, wouldn't go back. They were established in 1963 but this doesn't mean their food has been good since 1963. Go somewhere else if you want soba.
Nippon is a genuine Japanese restaurant where you can savor a satisfying meal with attentive service in a charming ambiance. While the prices of the food and drinks may seem a bit high for what you receive, you are paying for the overall dining experience. Our order included a Yellowtail Scallion Roll for $9, Tempura S for $18, and Sukiyaki L for $39, along with a Sake carafe for over $30 and a glass of plum wine, totaling close to $150 for two people. This is not your everyday dining spot unless you have the budget for it. The service and atmosphere, however, were exceptional. Despite arriving 30 minutes early for our reservation, the staff warmly welcomed us and promptly seated us in a cozy dining area separated from other patrons. This private setting allowed us to enjoy our meal peacefully. The staff was knowledgeable and helpful in explaining the portions of the different dish sizes. The food was good overall, although the portion sizes may not entirely justify the prices. The Sushi roll was tasty but nothing extraordinary, while the Tempura assortment was enjoyable, especially with the flavorful dipping sauce. The Sukiyaki broth was sweet and delicious, enhancing the flavors of the tofu and vegetables in the dish. The white rice was authentic, resembling what one would find in a typical Japanese household. The meat in the Sukiyaki was a bit tough, and it did not come with raw eggs for dipping, as is customary. I recommend Nippon for a lovely and intimate meal with family or in a professional setting where you can enjoy your meal in a serene environment with attentive service.
Love. The apps here the beef and eggplants melt in your mouth. The scallop soup was my fav.
Bottom line: do not come here for omakase. Wanted to introduce the omakase experience to my partner for Valentine's Day. Unfortunately, I don't think it was a proper introduction. The sushi came out all in one plate which I've never had before, but I accepted it as a precaution for covid 19. I wasn't too bothered by the fact that the sushi rice was pretty cold, I was more bothered by the tough cuts of fish I had to spit out part of the yellowtail sushi because it felt like a bone or scale. The uni I had did not taste fresh or of the sea, it didn't taste like uni at all and I also decided not to consume it. I am not a nit picky diner, but for the cost of omakase we did not get the same attention to detail or flavor that excites omakase lovers. I'm open to come here again and try anything else but the sushi. Three stars for friendly, quick service and pretty interior.
Sitting in my out-of-the-way corner of this quiet, traditional Japanese restaurant, I might as well have been dining in a small spot in a local Tokyo neighborhood. Cosseted by the attention of the long-term staff who knows me well, I had a simple, genuine Japanese lunch-a bowl of soba noodles made from wheat from the restaurant’s Canadian farm, a spot of tempura and a constantly refilled cup of green tea. What more can one ask for? I’ve only been coming here since 1972. It’s my go to spot, and it won’t be long until I’m sitting there again .
