Toloache Upper East Side - New York

Was in the back part of the restaurant on a Wednesday night, extremely loud, all tables full but the noise does not drown out well, the noise was unbearable and couldn’t wait to scarf food down and get out. Food was really salty and the water couldn’t keep coming fast enough to hydrate from the salt. Spent $140 with tip on a carne asada, two tacos and two drinks.

The food was fine, honestly, the service was pretty awful. After waiting about 10 minutes even speak to my wait person, it took another 15 mins to get the drink I ordered. It took around 45+ mins for the food to arrive. We had ordered more drinks in the interim, which never appeared until we reminded the waitress (when she finally blessed us with our dinner). It wasn't busy at all, so there was no obvious reason for such poor service. I have always liked Toloache in the past, but last night was a pretty miserable experience from beginning to end

Food was terrific, but like so many restaurants the noise level was excruciating- 80 decibels at times. This made a great meal remarkably unpleasant.

A true neighborhood gem. Good service, great food, lively atmosphere.
