The Lamb And Beef Gyro was fine. Nothing special, but not bad. The Spanakopita however was awful Bland and tasteless. I picked out several pieces of feta to see what was going on, and seriously, it tasted like nothing. Zero flavor. Ive never had a sodium free feta before today. It was weird.
I finally came back to Yia Yia Homemade Greek Food after after almost 8 months. First discovered the place as it's a stones throw away from New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, where I had a minor operation on my hand from a bike fall. I remember I was so hungry after release from the hospital and saw this Greek place. So, decided to come back as I was in the area to deliver a Christmas gift. There is quite a number of items on the menu. Souvlakis, Gyros,Salads, Sandwiches and Burgers, On a stick to name a few. I decided to get the same items from my first visit. I ordered the lamb/beef gyro, which is served in wrapped pita with tomato, onion, lettuce and tzatziki a sauce made of strainedyogurt mixed with cucumbers, garlic, salt, olive oil, sometimes with vinegar or lemon juice and herbs such as dill, mint, parsley and thyme). Also, got the chicken gyro as well with the same ingredients. For dessert, got the rice pudding yia yia or rizogalo) which is a no butter, egg free looks like a custard and flavored with vanilla, lemon peel or orange zest. So, after ordering the food to go and a quick commute back home, prepared the food. How was it? Just as good asI remember it. The Lamb/Beef was amazing, unusual combination as I would think you would separate the two Meats but by combining them, they create a unique, quite delicious flavors. The chicken gyro was good too though maybe not as much asthe lamb/beef though it can definitely hold its own. The rice pudding was sweet though not overly and seemed as great combination with the gyros. It was worth making the trip back and Yia Yia is definitely a place with good food. Highlyrecommend.
This was totally perfect! I never got to have greek food before it is delicious!! 1000/10 would try again ??
