Garden State Diner - Newark

Good prices and proportions but the food is not good. I ordered a $20 Ruben which was made in a toaster oven. No ?grill? in the bread, so it was just hard and dry, no 1000island, and the meat was literally black from being burned. They never brought me a water or my coffee, and the staff was rude. When I asked for 1000island, the employee said ?I don?t make the food?. The people next to me ordered their eggs soft and they were also burned.

Food wasn?t worth the money. I understand airport food is usually more expensive, but the quality of the actual meal made me and my partner sick. I had the Disco Fries which were smothered in gravy and melted cheese but was given a lukewarm pile of solidified cheese on mediocre fries. I considered taking the leftovers onto my flight but grew sick at the thought. Also, the Arnold Palmer I paid for was a small that cost nearly $4, wasn?t good. You?re better of going to one of the mini shops that sell cold sandwiches.

The menu on Google is completely wrong and years old. Most of those items are not available. You cannot get steak you cannot get those large breakfasts nothing is available. Most of the sandwiches were not freshly made and we're sitting behind glass just waiting to be heated up. I ordered a steak sandwich for about $18 with the tax and it was pretty meager as you can see from the photos, at least it appeared to be made fresh but it tasted just okay. Very disappointed that no real steak was available nor french onion soup which is what I went here for. I was not looking for cheap food and that is what I got with an expensive price. I should have ordered a chicken parm sandwich from the the little bar just across from the diner where I stopped for a coffee. The sandwiches there we're about the same price and looked way better with a larger portion. Big, big disappointment ???

Waiting time is a little long, but as I have a lot of time, that's not a problem at all. The waitress is exceptionally beautiful! She gave me food recommendation and even made sure that I didn't pay for the chocolate croissant by talking about it. The potatoes are hot and soft and tasteful. The sourdough is crispy but soft. The ham and the eggs are perfect. People will be curling at the airport, but this place is very nice. I highly recommend it!

OMG! We hardly caught our flight and landed here for a 3-hour layover and we saw this place and thought why not? So, damn good we took the chance! We were quickly shown a table/boat and the waiting staff was friendly/professional and very friendly. The food was very good! Will we come back when we're back in the area?
