Hopdoddy - Newport Beach

This restaurant has a unique setup. You place your order and pay at the counter, then help yourself to drinks, napkins, and condiments. Someone from the kitchen will bring your order to your table. However, I found it strange that the tablet, which only accepts card payments, suggested a 30% gratuity given the lack of any service throughout the entire transaction. The burger was delicious, but I thought it was a bit pricey since everything is a la carte. The bottom bun was so thin that it got soggy, making it difficult to pick up the burger without it falling apart. I have to take off one star for the soggy burger and the complete absence of silverware.

The Magic Shroom burger is consistently excellent. However, I'm disappointed that they no longer offer a honey mustard dipping sauce for the fries or chicken strips. It's also a letdown that the selection of fancy soft drinks has been reduced.

Great burger place! The bacon double jam burger ($12) is fantastic. They also have a nice variety of beers available. Plus, parking is a breeze.

Good Night/Good Cause Burger with Hot Honey Sage Sweet Potato Fries were good. Nice concept. The Hostess taking our order didn't have much knowledge of the menu so couldn't personally recommend anything.

Pretty good burgers but hamstrung by ridiculously slow service. We went on a holiday weekend for a late lunch, the restaurant was decently full (maybe 75% capacity or so) but only had 1 server taking orders at the bar, and 2 other servers doingeverything else. Took a really long time for everything, from waiting in line to order to waiting for someone to come and cleanup a table to getting our food. The burgers are good, and the queso fries had really good flavor but the queso sauce was noteven room temperature. I sent it back to get it reheated and they sent another out exactly the same temp. I walked by thekitchen and it seemed also understaffed,so they probably didn't have time to check whatvever they were sending out.
