The Original Mama D's Italian Kitchen

I came here with 4 friends on a Saturday night and the wait was over 1 hour, but we decided to wait because we were so excited to try it! We stopped by the Cannery nearby for a quick drink while waiting. When we came back, they were passing out bread for those waiting outside which was so nice. However, after getting a text that our table was ready, we did have to wait an additional 10 or so minutes. The starter bread they give out is a 5/5, maybe the best I've had! The manager came over and gave us a bruschetta was such a nice gesture. The bruschetta was quite good, I was full already. I ordered the spinach ravioli with the Mama D's pink sauce for my entree and it was amazing. Everyone at the table also enjoyed their meals. The vibe inside was really cute and gave the feeling of a little family restaurant. The servers were very nice and it was sweet seeing everyone sing happy birthday as some people were celebrating. When we were ready for the check, our server dropped off some cookies and a thank you note, it was a nice touch. I can't wait to come back and try other dishes!

Honestly, this was the best experience I have EVER had eating at a restaurant.. from the beginning until the end.. let me tell you about it: we walked up to Mama Ds and saw people outside, and I immediately thought oh great, there is a huge line we have to wait in however, when I got closer, I saw that no one was angry, and they all look like they were having a great time at that same moment, someone came by and offered me some fresh garlic bread, and wanted to know if I wanted a glass of wine while I waited. Another person came by and was offering free, raviolis, calamari, and different appetizers! I couldn 't believe it! It seemed like there was no wait because we were already happily eating and drinking and visiting with our friends, at that moment, the owner came out and introduced himself and was talking to other people. That 's when we snapped this photo with him. when we got seated at our table our server immediately came up to us and introduced himself. His name was Adam! Wow the people here actually care about their customers and they want us to know who they are, as I looked at the menu, I noticed that there was two other pieces of paper on the table. One was the restaurant 's mission, statement and vision. Another was a quote by George Bernard Shaw. This place has amazing positive posters, and sayings all over the walls, and it feels like you 're in a whole new world. When you come inside, it 's like all of my stress was left at the door! The food was amazing, but more importantly, the ambience, the people, the service the restaurant itself just has this magic feeling to it. I honestly can 't recommend it more. Please come to this restaurant if you 've never been here, it will be the best time of your life. Thank you so much, Mama Ds!

I'm Italian so maybe I'm particular but I cane expecting a good meal and I left being very disappointed I wish the food wasn't cold, it should't have been we waited long enough for the food to arrive the portions left a lot to be desired if they would comp me I would be willing to give another review if would be better Grant Lattanzi

I'm pretty late on my review but I'm finally coming around to it. Found this place from of course Yelp while i was in Newport why not eat like the locals. I was pretty nervous for the wait times as reading other reviews has described it gets busy and we had a party of 8. So i just knew we would wait a long time but to my surprise we waited probably 20-30 mins which wasn't too bad. They have seating outside for those waiting and don't worry they have bread offerings while waiting and you can order drinks! They also provide menus to look at while waiting. It's pretty welcoming and accommodation. The seating area reminded me of being at a family members house for the holidays. Close seating, couches for others to wait or lounge and everyone was in a good mood and having great conversations. I was excited to order their pink sauce. The portions are big enough to share. I ordered the ravioli in their pink sauce( they are known for) others at the table had veggie lasagna, kids pizza and i forgot what else but the table was full of food. Although my food tasted decent, i wasnt as impressed with the pink sauce as others have raved about. Oh and after dinner there were warm crispy cookies along with mints. The service was AMAZING. Start to finish. Checking in was a breeze, the wait wasn't bad since there was a server offering bread and drinks. Our table server was patient, answered questions and such a sweetheart.
