Bidra med feedbackI suggest if you are in Nova Scotia that you visit as many wineries as you can. This is a great first stop. Beautiful setting, building, and very generous tastings. They also have many wines to choose from with very friendly and knowledgeable staff. There is outdoor seating with umbrellas with wonderful scenery. I did hope for a covered patio for a very hot day. Will go again on our next visit.
Avondale Sky is easily the most picturesque winery and vineyard we have in this province and I 'm willing to bet it 's easily one of the least known within Nova Scotia 's growing wine country. Opened as a passion project within the last few years, Avondale Sky was made when owners floated a church over 40kms down a river before it found its gorgeous new home. The winery 's shop and tasting area now lives in the church itself which has been beautifully fixed up while retaining as many of the original features as possible. Inside you 'll find Avondale Sky 's handful of wines including my favourites, their Tidal Bay and Riesling, along with jellies, salts, and oils handpicked to complement them. Personally, I wasn 't too fond of the red or rosé, but I 'll leave that up to you to decide for yourself. Staff on hand during our visit were so welcoming, friendly, and ranked very low on the 'wine sob ' scale which was perfect for us. So while it 's a little out of the way, it 's well worth a visit next time you 're heading out to the Windsor area.
This little winery is worth a quick detour on your way to visit the other wineries in the valley. The tasting room is stunning, it is an old church that they floated down the river! The windows let in lots of natural light and the floors and beams are beautiful. The wines are nice, I'm a fan of the Riesling and the Tidal Bay. I like that they have samples of jellies, salt, oil and bread to try along with the wine samples. They can really change the taste of the wine.
We have visited this winery many times and enjoyed their excellent wines over the years. 2 weeks ago we had brunch at the new restaurant that just opened up in the winery. The food and atmosphere was top notch. i would definitely go back again. Try the scallop slider and a sampling of their amazing wines.
A very enjoyable experience! Good wine, friendly staff, and a beautiful location. We stopped at Avondale Sky Winery while visiting friends in the area. Coming from Northern California Wine Country, we were excited to try the local wine and we were not disappointed! The tasting room is located in a beautiful old church, which was relocated from another located. The story of the move, which includes a float down a river, is documented on the walls of a side room. This, along with several paintings and the stained glass windows, gives visitors plenty to explore while enjoying a tasting. We enjoyed all the wine we tasted, most of which were white. I'm a fan of big bold reds, but have to give a big shout out to Avondale Sky's Lady Slipper rose', as well as their ice wine. Both were fabulous. Avondale Sky Winery is worth a visit! I only wish we had tried their restaurant.
