Happy Chef - Newtown

It's no frills Chinese , but it doesn't try it be anything else. And it's been like this consistently for at least the last 10 years. The spicy beef noodle soup is pretty good, but poor quality beef chunks let the dish down. The prawn and scallop noodle soup on the other hand is excellent. The broth is so beautiful. If you don't feel like noodles or soup then go for the Emperors Chicken - it's a good option. Ambience is dated and a little dingy, but don't let that put you off, the food is generally pretty good.

Amazing food , great affordable Chinese food. Eggplant was the best. Got it takeaway and was still crispy after 15mins. Mongolian beef was full of flavour and absolutely delicious. The empress chicken was average.

Cheap and cheerful, excellent fast food, friendly staff. Won't win any awards for decor or ambience but the food is all that matters here. Our go-to for delicious quick Chinese food. Yum!

My go to place in Newtown for quick, fresh Chinese/Malaysian/HK noodles + rice dishes. The food is always fresh. It's not a fancy venue, but the service is friendly and efficient. Favourites are the laksa, the wonton noodle soup with extra tofu + the beef with XO sauce and rice.

If you are using bleached prawns and frozen beancurd skin instead of fresh ones, you would never make nice food. The vermicelli was unevenly cooked - some hard, some mushy. Perhaps the chef would like to learn from Malay Chinese takeaway.
