Sushi King Monticello - Norfolk

We walked in and found it a bit busy, so we had to wait about 15 minutes. The drinks were cold, and the service was excellent and very quick. Our sushi arrived almost immediately after we ordered. The waitress checked on us frequently to see if we needed more drinks or food. The atmosphere was fantastic; the restaurant's theme and lighting created a wonderful ambiance. I particularly loved the décor, including the foundation and railings, which made me feel like I was in Asia. The beautiful artificial cherry blossom trees and wall murals added to the experience. I really enjoyed my time there and the food, and I definitely plan to go back again.

I have mixed feelings about this restaurant, to be honest. The food was delicious, but the service didn't quite meet my expectations. Overall, it was a good experience.

Just not good unfortunately. Much better sushi downtown than this and cheaper if you?re doing takeout. I remember it being better years ago but maybe it?s just me.

I?ve been to many sushi restaurants throughout the years and this one was incredibly lackluster. Before diving into the negative aspects of my experience, I have to say that the most positive aspect was the service. Our server was both attentive and understanding. The food was pretty underwhelming and at times a bit textually sickening. The warmth of rice mixed with the coolness of other items in the rolls resulted in some confusing food items. Additionally, the sheeramount of rice given with each sushi seems to have increased over the years in proportion to the rice. The part that disappointed me the most was the ground up tuna and yellowfin in the spicy tuna and dynamite roll. The lukewarm temperatureand mushy, pudding-like texture of the ground up fish was incredulously awful. The only reason I?m giving this review two stars is because the setting is nice enough and the service was good. There are without a doubt, much better sushirestaurants and buffets in the area so I?d give those a try before considering returning here.

However, when the bill came, we were taken aback. We were charged dinner prices despite dining and finishing our meal by 2:30 PM. We asked to speak with the manager because there was no indication anywhere that weekend rates automatically applied for dinner. The manager informed us that lunch prices only apply from Monday to Friday, while weekends are considered dinner pricing. He was rude and dismissed our concerns, ignoring our point that there was no mention of this policy on the website, the menu, or any posted signs outside. Although the manager claimed that the information was displayed on an external menu, we looked on our way out and found nothing to support his statement. It seemed like he didn’t care about our feedback at all. So, to anyone planning to visit on a weekend, be aware that all prices, regardless of the time of day, are charged at dinner rates.
