Bidra med feedbackWe visited a pub/restaurant located in a busy area based on the recommendation of the BBC good food guide. The food was superb and the service was friendly and efficient. The menu offered a small but delicious selection of starters, with the Falafel being a standout. The mains were also excellent, with my personal favorite being the tofu Thai green curry. We enjoyed a bottle of Chardonnay from the mid-price range, which complemented our meal perfectly. The atmosphere in the cozy snug area was inviting, and we would definitely return if we find ourselves in Norwich again.
I visited the restaurant today and was disappointed to receive cold food. After complaining, I was given a complimentary round of drinks while waiting for a replacement. However, the replacement food also arrived lukewarm. The service staff were polite and efficient, but overall, the experience was disappointing. I have dined at their sister restaurant, the Wildebeest, on multiple occasions and have always had an excellent experience. Unfortunately, this visit did not meet the same standard.
Three of us were booked for a Saturday night. After we had signed in, we were shown to our table. Covid protocols were observed. The menu was not particularly extensive and focussed on burgers of different types. Because of their Coved regulations, it was not...possible to order a starter and then main course; they would both be served together. So we skipped a starter, ordered drinks and main courses. For drinks their speciality was several types of cocktails served by the jug £30) and lagers. They had one “guest” ale which was acceptable. The jug of Mojito was good. For mains, one of us chose a chicken burger, one the harissa aubergine quite spicy) and one a rare sirloin steak, which was actually cooked medium. For dessert, each one of us had the lemon curd pot which was actually very good. Service was good and attentive. The decor is a bit cold and functional. Parking impossible.
Found this location on Michelin. Perfectly polite staff, but they had a strange arrangement where they wanted to bring out starters and mains at the same time (although we noticed other tables managed to get space between the two). Food was basic and easy (burgers,...fries, fried chicken) all perfectly decent, but insanely overpriced at £14.... London prices for gourmet burgers are cheaper! Staff managed to miss two requests for condiments. There was a hair in the wine glass. Both Beef and chicken burgers were great overdone. Not sure if there has been a change of management or chef, or if Covid has meant operational changes, but the food offerings and quality are wayyyy below that of earlier reviews and pics found for this restaurant on a variety of platforms. Based on our experience, this was most definitely NOT worth a place on the Michelin website.
We sat upstairs and were very well looked after by James. My husband had an incredible rump steak with chimichurri and I had a sea bass fillet with a lemony butter sauce. Both dishes were absolutely historic. Our ‘Snickers’ tart for pudding was sublime too Huge...compliments to the kitchen for creating absolutely knock out, first class food. And big thanks to James for looking after us so well and for taking the time and trouble to explain to us that the WSS can cater for gluten free people. Our daughter has coeliac and James very kindly explained that if we mention this when booking that the kitchen can cater thoughtfully for her, adapting individual dishes where they can. Thank you for having us we had a yummy meal this evening and will absolutely definitely be back.
