Gasthaus zur Hoffnung - Offenburg

We often hear of the delights of an English country garden, however, it is not often you come by a beautiful pub/restaurant garden. Here in this nice corner of Germany I came across, many years ago, what must be the nicest garden I have ever...seen outside of tourist localities. Outside of tourist localities also gives it a wonderful advantage because here you sit down with a German population out enjoying themselves, for a few nice beers and very good food, at a very reasonable price. I went with my wife, Pascale, and a few friends last week, and, as always we were very satisfied. It is where I always bring my Irish family and friends. Last week I was inviting an English new friend, living in Strasbourg, and I knew he would enjoy more the 'beer' atmosphere' of this restaurant as opposed to a 'wine atmosphere' found in France. And yes he did... We started off with a wonderful Weiss beer, followed by a local favourite from a nearby brewery in Offenburg. A wonderful flammenkuchen was shared by us all and we (males) opted for the mixed grill which was thoroughly enjoyed. A Pear Williams rounded off the evening meal and wonderful conversation. Staff, even if under pressure, are always very friendly with a nice level of working English if needed. You also get a wonderful impression of the German family culture out for a relaxing evening. They offer a very nice menu and very well priced. Large beers, Pear Williams are priced at euros and food prices vary from to euros approx. If with kids there is a little space where they can play. On a nice summer's evening after a long walk in the nearby Rhine Forest...this is Germany at its most enjoyable

This is a wonderful German beer garden restaurant which i love to visit, especially in full summer when their garden is absolutely beautiful, storks fly overhead and high quality beer can be enjoyed. Out with friends on our bike through the Rhine forests and lakes...what a nice place to drop in. And they have a very nice menu that they can be proud of, delicious asparagus this week as I write, strawberries and ice cream when in season and a nice range of steaks, salads etc. It has kept its staff for the last years that I have been visiting, always a good sign also

We were in three days twice in this restaurant. real portions and good products on the teller. we recommend this restaurant. the staff is helpful and friendly.

We were on the bike and wanted to go to the beer garden. Unfortunately, everything was occupied, but we could sit on a table until something became free. in the time we were courteously served and then sown to a free table. it was still sparing and the selection of sparing dishes was great. in the beer garden you sit in a well maintained garden and eating was above average good.

Were here to visit in a larger group and ordered predominantly steaks! everything perfect on the spot especially the bark filet was excellent. here gets a nice selection of bad food with pleasant ambiente and friendly services. especially the beer garden is welcoming and really big. a timely reservation is advisable here!
