Terraza Maria - Ojén

For an authentic, simple, welcoming and very well-priced bar, you will do no better than Bar Maria. Very, very simple, laid back but full of local character, the food was good, cooking was good, portions generous and coffee good. A meal for three, bottle of wine, coffees and a few bits was under 30 Euros

We arrived at lunch time it was quiet but the staff Lazaro especially was such a nice friendly, helpful chap the owner was very knowledgable. Take a look at their bird but don't put your finger in the cage. We loved this bar the food was great but the best was the welcome that we received we felt we were local it was very special go and say hello.

Visited this restaurant when we were in Ojen last Christmas. Very friendly, typically Spanish place. Most of the other customers were locals and it was busy, which is always a good sign. The food was fresh and local the chorizo and meat is sourced nearby from small producers. The owners took quiet pride in the quality of their ingredients. We speak Spanish but I got the impression that the owners would come more than halfway to meet anyone trying their best to communicate. It 's not the kind of place where walking in and speaking English at double volume would work. Though I guess the owners would be gracious and friendly no matter what. We had grilled fish, which was super fresh and tasty. My son 's chips were obviously home made and came in a generous portion. The tomato/lettuce salad was freshly made. The owners were attentive but not obtrusive. The desserts were the usual mix of home made and commercial. My son had a delicious home made coffee cake. I get the impression that the desserts change regularly. Coffee was fab too. The prices were very reasonable and it was a treat to be away from the plastic 'tourist menu ' microwave meccas of the Costa.
