Banana Leaf Thai Bistro - Port Townsend

The staff at this restaurant are extremely friendly. The food was delicious, although I was expecting the Thai hot dish to be spicier. I ordered the mango duck curry and I believe they may have toned down the spiciness for me. It's possible that I am becoming more tolerant to heat.

I ordered the chicken pad thai and my mom got the panang curry. Unfortunately, the chicken in both dishes was flavorless and overcooked. The pad thai noodles were rubbery and clumped together as if they had been left out for a while. The curry lacked any coconut flavor and was also bland. However, the spring rolls and peanut sauce were tasty, so they make for a decent appetizer option. Our server failed to check if we wanted refills on our drinks.

This was our first stop in Port Townsend, and I am so glad we saw it. We ordered chicken larb gai, chicken panang curry, fried rolls, and mango sticky rice. On my mama, it was so delicious! The larb (pronounced lob) was a level 4 spice and the sauce was perfection. It’s a sweet vinegary fish sauce spicy, so if you like that flavor profile, please try this. The panang curry had such a deep rich flavor. Perfectly paired with white rice. I would try brown if the brown had a more neutral flavor, but to me its the wrong texture and too nutty. Now back to the curry. Perfect portions of spice, I asked for 3, and I think I could have asked for 4 but 3 allowed us to enjoy the flavors of the panang. Mango sticky rice is super cute and super delicious for a dessert in the summer. They don’t cut corners and made these with love. This is a must stop in Port Townsend moving forward. Great service, and it took around 20 mins for our order. I was surprised it wasn’t more busy, but no complaints here.

I got the spicy basil garlic fried rice with mild spice and tofu, delicious! Our waiter let us know before we were seated that there was going to be a wait because they were understaffed and we were ok with that! Still had excellent service ?
