Nova Era - Porto

This Portuguese Food was okay but not that well-prepared at Nova Era Restaurante on Rua Ferreira Cardoso 56, in Porto 4300-197, Portugal. My grilled fish was too charred to taste the delicate flavors, the salad lacked dressing and the tomato and cucumber was not cut in thin slices. The waiters were nice. The place was mobbed.

Nova Era New Age. This place is nothing like a new age restaurant as it is totally olde world. I'm not complaining. I just thought the name was fun for a cool old vibe local restaurant like this. Also, don't come here for a romantic dinner because this place is large and bright and bustling with servers and people coming and going. But that is just what makes this place an adventure. We found that customers at different tables were talking to each other and interacting and joking with the servers. It is truly a local neighborhood haunt. We ordered one of the daily specials, the cod fish pancakes and the stewed octopus with potatoes which we learned is a typical Porto dish. I have never seen a piece of octopus that size. The portion was large enough for 3-4 people. Both dishes were delicious and fresh. We also ordered a nice local white wine and and dessert. The meal was about 40 euros which we thought we incredibly fair especially given the generous portions. The next time I'm in the Bomfim neighborhood in Porto, I will surely return to Nova Era for their retro feel and delicious cuisine.

The waiters are very nice even though they have lots of work, because this place is always full. Prices are ok, food is really good. I recommend sardines! No fireworks, just good cuisine.
