L&l Hawaiian Bbq - Reno

I’ve visited this restaurant multiple times but keep forgetting to write a review, so here it is. I typically order the BBQ short rib combo, which includes three pieces of short ribs, a couple of scoops of steamed rice, and macaroni salad. I also add a large drink to my meal. The flavor of the short ribs is great, and unlike many, I actually enjoy the fatty parts too (as chef Emeril Lagasse famously said, "Fat is flavor!"). A bit of fat in my dish doesn't deter me. The steamed rice was dense, and while the macaroni salad was rather basic, together with the meat, it made for a tasty combination. The portion size is generous, although I do find the price a bit steep; $20 for just myself is on the higher side of my food budget. When I arrived, there were only three people in the restaurant, so the service was quick—my order was ready in under 15 minutes. The cashiers were okay; both staff members I interacted with (I arrived just as their shift changed) seemed a bit bored and indifferent. However, since I was getting my food to-go, it didn’t bother me much. Overall, I would still say my experience was quite positive.

I really wish the restaurant would expand a bit, as the space is quite small, which limits the dining experience. During winter, it can get really cold, especially if you're seated near the door. However, the food is consistently excellent, and I've never had an issue with them messing up orders—whether I’m dining in, getting takeout, or using third-party delivery services.

I absolutely love the food at this restaurant. The service is exceptional, and my top pick is the macaroni, though the hamburger is also fantastic. I highly recommend this place. It’s always kept very clean as well.

This was my first experience with Hawaiian BBQ, and I was really impressed! Everything we tried was delicious. We ordered the Chicken Katsu and the BBQ Short Ribs.

AVOID THIS LOCATION! The Mae Anne location is significantly better. I tried both places over two nights to compare them. This location charged $1 more for the same meal, and the portion size was half that of the Mae Anne location (I'm not exaggerating; you could actually feel the weight difference). Additionally, all three meats (I ordered the mixed plate with chicken, beef, and ribs) were dried out and lacked flavor. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND it.
